GP2: Poor Race Performance

GP2: Poor Race Performance

by Neil Charlt » Mon, 25 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hi all, I wonder if anyonecan explain the following:

I've recently been racing at Interlagos as part of Randy's GP2 racing
league. My best 'practice any circuit lap' was high 1:15s, my qual lap
was low 1:15s and in pre race warm up with 25 laps of fuel, I
sometimes ran 1:16s but usually low 1:17s. All normal so far.

However, as soon as the race started I only managed 2 1:18s and all
the rest were 1:19s or 1:20s. This is wierd and I couldn't really see
why this should be so. I was using the same setup for all and I had
all the race tyres unused before the race. This is really wierd and I
would appreciate any ideas on the subject.

Regards

: Hi all, I wonder if anyonecan explain the following:

Niel, I'm sure there are others that can clarify and elaborate further,
but I'll wing it. GP2, as did GP1(WC), slightly modifies "performance"
levels between certian sessions. If you want a clean, pure gauge on
performance characteristics then run Practice Any Track. During Race
Weekends, each session will be altered slightly, with usually the quicker
times in qualifying.

GP2's way of variety since the sim is "locked in" in terms of track
conditions. My idea as to why there is no tire temps or camber adjusments
available...without chaning weather these are almost redundant.

According to the available editors, there is a difference of 10 BHP
between qualifying and all the other sessions. If I remember correctly,
the player's car performance is 790 BHP during qualifying and 780 BHP
during all the other sessions.
And there are some other random changes in other parameters like fluctuating
BHP or changes in quality of the tyres.

Argh! When i do my hotlaps i always use practise mode. I compare my times=
to all the guys posting on the internet. It's ridiculous if i'm 10 BHP sho=
rt and running on varying tyres compared to the other guys! Is it really tr=
ue?

Normal F1 cars are slower when driving a race because the car is full
with fuel and the setup is a little
different.

Henk,

Thanks for the reply. As I said, I could run thw pre-race warmup with
25 lap[s of fuel in 1:16/1:17. It is only during the race that it
deteriorates. Surely GP2 does not arbitarily change my setup?
