I have just moved and can't find my copy of the game!!!  I haven't played it
in awhile, but would like to try the new 2004 mod.  Does anyone know where I
can find a copy?

TIA,

Chad

They never stop trying, do they?
I spose it's better than just asking flatout for a pirate copy

Well I am not sure what to make of your response.  I have never pirated a
game in my life and OWN a copy of F1 championship as well as virtually every
other quality driving sim made.  I don't see anything wrong with trying to
find one on a racing news group.  If I wanted to pirate one I guess I could
have found a way to do that already don't you think?

yeah true, I apologise if I read what you said the wrong way, it's just I
see tons of posts saying "My copy of X is lost/stolen/vaporised/eaten by a
dog/hidden in interests of National Security, where can I find a copy?"
which to me is a roundabout way of asking "Can somebody give me a copy of
theirs?"

Again, if your intentions are honest, then I apologise - but surely if you
know how to post on a NewsGroup then you would be able to track down a
website or something that sells it

**Hang on - Brainwave! Don't EA give/sell cheap a replacement copy if you
can prove you own it (E.G. pic of box, CD Key)?**

Hope that clears it up...

If you have already bought the game in the past just go ahead and find a
pirate copy.  You already own the game afterall, so all you'd be doing is
downloading a 'backup' of it.  F1C was the first game I pirated in awhile,
simply because I just couldn't find anywhere to buy it here in Australia.
If I can't find anyone selling it, obviously the creators of the game don't
need the money from people in this area, so *** em.  Oh and anyone who
thinks this is wrong, explain why I should go to the trouble of risking
money on an ebay purchase from overseas for a game from that I should be
able to walk into a store and buy?

I tend to agree.  If you bought a copy, you ought to be able to play it,
whether you lose it or not.

Goat,

Thought you might want to know that Richard Burns Rally is available at
alt.binaries.games.encrypted.

Enjoy!

And also if you can't buy it...is it really pirating it?

What do you call getting a bootleg copy of a game you did not buy?  The
point about not being able to find the title is irrelevent.

On the other hand, tracking down a reasonably priced copy these days is
pretty incredibly difficult.   Even EA's site lists it as out of stock,
and has for months now.   It seems to be out of print and exceptionally
difficult to find.

So, what would be the deal with making a copy of a game that is no longer in
print? Is it as illegal as copying one that could be bought new? I know it
could be bought second hand, but is that the same?

Would it be legal to sell a copy of an out of print game for profit?

Would it be legal to sell a copy, if you didn't make a profit?

As far as legality goes, I'm certain that in all situations it's illegal
to create a copy.   As far as my morality goes, I think that if the
company that owns the rights to it makes it literally impossible to give
them money for a legitimate copy, it's perfectly fine to make a copy myself.

That being said, I probably wouldn't do it, solely out of fear of EA's
legal department.

There are many who have discussed this issue with far more thought and
detail than I.   Here's a decent article on the subject:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=9753

To put it into perspective, if SoldOut and a few other outlets weren't
selling legal copies of GPL and everyone on eBay was taking advantage of
the situation and starting auctions for it at $200 or so, I'd definitely
find myself a copy from a friend or on the net.   However, they had the
foresight to allow places like SoldOut to make legal copies.   If EA
would do the same for F1C (or release it as a budget title, or
*something*), I'm sure most of us, myself included, would gladly pay for
a legal copy.   Well, I would if I didn't already own one, that is.
