GPL just don't wanna work.

GPL just don't wanna work.

I have a shiny new Gateway GX450-XL with some of the specs being the
following.

Xeon 450MHz CPU
16MB STB V4400 nVidia TNT AGP video card.
2 x STB Blackmagic 12MB Voodoo 2 cards in SLI mode.
Creative AudioPCI 64D sound card.

This machine has played every game (and believe me I have tried DOZENS)
that I have thrown at it whether Direct 3D or Glide.

Having had GPL for quite a while and enjoying it hugely on my slower
P333 PC i thought it would be fantastic on the new beast.
However......the damn thing refuses to work with the Voodoo 2.

It works okay with the TNT card and open GL beta drivers (which by the
way kills the Voodoo 2 SLI configuration for the vast majority of games
in terms of picture quality). However the mirror problems and glitches
make this an unnaceptable solution.

Of course it works perfectly with software rendering but heck, i got
faster frame rates out of the 333 with a Voodoo 1.

With the Voodoo 2 setup it all looks okay until I move the damn mouse.
Then it locks up COMPLETELY. Not ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab. Hit the old
reset button time.

I am running Win 98 and it is a Microsoft Intelimouse with wheel. I have
tried several different mouse drivers...no difference.
I have tried the 3dfx reference drivers
I have tried the old and latest STB Blackmagic drivers.
I have reinstalled MANY times.
I tried it from a clean Win98 install.

The DEMO runs perfectly!

Somebody please help. I want to run this thing at 1024x768 and still get
45 FPS

I have a gateway p2-400, with an ati rage pro and voodoo2 card.  GPL runs
great on mine, but I did encounter problems initially, with the textures
turning black.  I downloaded the latest 3dfx driver and it ran great.  I
suggest you look closely at ALL the drivers and make sure you have the
latest.  Make sure that you have Directx 6.0 (or whatever the newest version
is now.)  Make sure you dont have any terminate and stay programs running.
By the way, I don't think Voodoo2 supports 1024X768, although I could be
mistaken.  Can anyone else out there help on this?  Regardless, I really
can't see a significant difference between 800x600 and 640x480, even with
the framerate.  So I really wouldn't worry about running at 1024x768 unless
you just want some bragging rights.

interrupt conflict so I have no idea what the problem was. All I know is that no
network card and perfect GPL! Funny it only affected GPL in 3DFX mode. Probably
to do with the way it polls the joystick or something?

As for 1024x768. Runs terrific. I am getting (during practice) 45FPS with
EVERYTHING turned on. 16 sounds and all textures etc. had too much fun enjoying
the view to try 1024x768 in a race though. Probably fall below the 30FPS I would
be comfortable with. 800x600 looks okay for the race. One thing I wish they
would do is put some expression on the drivers face. Looks too much my old slot
cars!

I'm getting 36 frames per second with all the racers on the track, unless I
spin out and have a lot of them in my sight, then I drop to 20.  I really
can't complain much, though.

Hmmmm, I thought the max fps in GPL was 36, no matter what hardware
you are running....

8-)
