I drive F1GP using the keyboard (can't afford one of those steering
wheels!) and I found that on long races it got tiring modulating
the throttle by pressing the 'a' key repeatedly and I ended up
using a higher gear than recommended (on level 4) and holding the
throttle down when negotiating corners.
After a while I found that on most tracks I wasn't using first gear
at all, except for the start and the pitlane (Magny-Cours is a
notable exception) and it seemed a bit of a waste carrying this
gear around in the car.
So I changed the first gear ratio up to the value of second gear
and re-adjusted the other ratios. Off the line, the car was slower
in the new first gear, but I found that using the spin gear, I
could still get an acceptable acceleration off the line.
It appears that the spin gear is related to first, the higher the
ratio for first gear, the higher the spin gear. Thus the new higher
spin gear didn't generate quite so much wheelspin as before.
With a little playing around, I was able to set up the gearbox with
closer ratios and a slightly higher sixth gear.
It takes a little while to get used to the extra ratio and remembering
not to swerve while still using the spin gear ;-), but it definitely
lead to an improvement in my laptimes, particularly in accelerating
up the straights.
See what you think.
