Sato in a Lotus 49B, and Yoong in Ronnies P's Lotus 72 on dirty wet
Monaco streets!! Oh, the humanity...

I don't have a problem with Alex Yoong in a 'real' F1 car - he is just as
safe (if a bit slower) than the next F1 driver. However, putting Sato in a
Golf Cart is *way* too dangerous for my liking. <g>

The whole 'Sato incident' (as I am sure 2002 will go down in history as)
shows yet again how much of a big business F1 is nowadays. The Engine
manufacturer basically told EJ that Takuma was going to be their driver for
2002, and with the financial problems Jordan are in, I am sure all of his
trashed racecars (of which only the Austria one wasn't his fault - remember
Malasia?) are pretty pleasing to the manufacturers waiting to pounce into F1
(Honda may well be one of these - after Toyota jumped them). Maybe Sato is
being used by Honda to lower the price of the Jordan team for a takeover?

No kidding? -Always thought Sato looked uncomfortably close to what would
happen if someone put *me* into a (vintage) F1 car.

Great lesson of humility of the "quality" of those supposed young new
generation of drivers.

Seeing as Belgium is a bilingual country (Dutch/French) I'm usually able to
"see what you mean" when you use your particular brand of English, but this
time I'm at a loss to find meaning behind your words, Francois.

Care to expand a little?

Well now, it's not like hasn't been plenty of carbenders in the
past... Jody Scheckter, Ronnie P, Gilles V, et.c.

But to put these two in these historical masterpieces on wet Monaco
streets, NUTS!

P.S. In hindsight, Yoong actually did a pretty darn OK drive, beating
out Martin Stratton easily and staying in one piece... until the
gearbox gave out anyway. Martin Stratton does not exactly hold back
anything, I have a video of the 2000 Thoroughbred race at
Nrburgring... D.S.

Yeah but in the first lap exiting the pits?  They wouldn't had done that ;-P

It was probably also flown by aliens--I think the early models had the "tail
wheel" landing gear layout, so the jet blast bounced off the runway and
fouled the elevators--apparently to get off the ground you had to rush down
the runway, bop the brakes hard enough to get the tail off the ground but
not so hard you flip onto your back... luckily Hitler didn't take advantage
of the jets as air superiority fighters... of course there was also that
rocket plane that melted one pilot when the fuel lines burst; not the safest
jobs in the Luftwaffe.
