F1GP movie - first impression

First of all I would like to thank Max Galvin for putting the
F1GP2-demo-movie on his website. For the ones who haven't checked it
out yet it's at http://www.racesimcentral.net/~mjg93/f1.html

After spending about 2 hours online getting the movie I couldn't be
happier. It's worth the costs of a 2 hour connection!

The movie looks great! But here are some things I nottices:

*) The sound is exactly like F1GP1. But the view changes to about
five different cars and the sound is of one car only (it does
not switch with the view). It does not even change with inside
or outside views. Also there is no Doppler-effect when a car is
passing a trackside-camera. Perhaps this means they haven't
finished the sound in F1GP2 yet and hae used the old F1GP1 sound.
Hope this is try as it would mean the sound will be improved in
   F1GP2
*) There is no sponsoring for tabaco-companies. Not only have the
names like Marlbore been removed from the cars, but also from the
trackside boards. All other well-known F1-sponsors seem to be
   present.
*) There is a number 0 Williams, so this gives us a bit of an idea
about the season used. It looks like Damon's helmet in the first
Williams but the movie is quite small so the only thing I can say
for sure it's that it's a dark helmer (it could be David's also).
It looks nothing like Senna's (phew...)
*) After about 200 meters the view switches to an in***pit view of
what looks like the #28 Ferrari (looking forward to the #27
Ferrari). When I look at the***pit it says Car-number 1??? So
   what season is this?
*) The***pit has the amount of fuel in the tanks
*) Look like Berger has only 17 (gallons/liters what is it) of fuel
just after the start. I'm not familiar with gallons, but if it's
liter it means that you can decide how much fule to take when
   starting!
*) The***pit has LED's indicating when to shift gears
*) The***pit has all the things we got used to in F1GP1 (current
gear, lap number, number of drivers, position etc.)
*) The mirrors do not work (yet)
*) Looks like Alesi (#27 Ferrari) makes the first turn to wide at
Monza and drives over the curbs. This might indicate much better AI

in F1GP2 including (minor) driver errors.
*) You can see a green car with a little yellow bend just in front of
the***pit which has number 19. I know this is a painting one of
the cars had about 2 years ago (was this Larrouse?). Is there
anyone there who can tell me which car this is, this will tell us
which season is used in F1GP2.
*) There appear to be sand traps along the track. You can not see any
car getting of the track so I'm not sure if the work or if they
drive just like grass. Let's hope they will function like real
   sand-traps in the final release
*) You can see two public stands along the track. But there are no
people at the track :-( What is this a race without people there?
Hope this will be fixed in the final release
*) When looking backwards from the front of the car to face the driver

you can actually see the helmer shake and move. Just great!
*) There is nice onboard camera looking between the car itself and the

frontweel (very low position). This camera looks great. I hope
there will be much more of these great camera position!
*) There is no wheelspin at the start :-(
*) Also no lockups when braking for the first corner :-(
*) Doesn't look like you can see the wheels of other cars rotating
   while driving
*) Alesi is bumping into Berger quite hard. So this means that Alesi
is indestructable or the cars are not very fragile. Hope the cars
will be much more fragile than in F1GP1, or even better let the
player decide how fragile the cars should be. Just like using
   GPDamEd with F1GP1.

For the ones who can't or do not want to download the F1GP2-movie I
hope this will give them some idea. But if you have any possibility of
downloading it (even if it is at 2400baud) you must do so! It looks
absolutly great!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can say nothing more than THANKS GEOFF!!

There's just one problem you'll get after looking at the movie. You
just can't wait for the release of the real game after looking at this
demo. It is absolutly great (as I have mentioned some times before)

Bye,
Wilfred
