Upgrading my computer?

Hi everybody!

I'm thinking about upgrading my good old 486DX266 with 20 megs RAM to a
Pentium 133 with 32 megs RAM. I'd like to know what kind of frame rate
can I expect, with this new system, from games like ICR2, N2 and GP2?
Will I be able to run them in SVGA with some details on and a decent
frame rate?

Mail me or post your comments here.

Thanks in advance!

I have a P133 with 16 megs of RAM. Yes, ICR2 and N2 run pretty good under
SVGA with some detail turned off. GP2 runs pretty good under VGA if you
turn the sky and mirrors off.

I get 14.2 fps in GP2 with everything turned off in SVGA. I've got a 60mhz
pentium (sadly) with 24meg and an old ATI mach 32 video card with 1meg. It
runs fine for me but slows down a bit when there are lots of other cars
about and is terrible in modem play (those modes need to be vga).

What ever you do..... try to buy the fastest chip you can buy.  Say
686 by Cyrix.  It gives much of the same performance as a pentium but at
a better price.  I have a 686p150 and have found that it was well worth
the extra bucks spent.

It's a good choice just as long as you aren't using FPU intensive games
like Quake, or playing games that like Nascar2 rely on certain Pentium-only
features such as the more accurate joystick polling.  Then you also have
games like NHL97 and Daggerfall that will not run on non-Pentiums w/out a
patch.  Oh, did I forget to mention Creative Lab's new WaveSynth/WG
(software wavetable synthesis providing 64-note polyphony on the AWE32 and
AWE64) that just plain will not work on a non-Pentium, and there is no
patch in site.  True you save money, but in the end is it really worth it?

Beside all that Eric I have yet to meet a programmer that would use a non
Intel chip!!! and chipset for that matter!
