Logitech or ACT Labs

by Sondo » Tue, 20 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Sorry to beat this to death.  I am going to purchase a FF wheel and just
read that Gamecenter gave its overall nod to ACT Labs wheel.  I'm sure the
feedback performance between this wheel and the Logitech wheel is so close
that it's just splitting hairs.  My concern lies with the shifting paddles
and pedals.  Are the paddles, for the ACT,  so bad that it will hurt my
racing performance trying to reach for them?  Can you attach something
(modify) to them?  I also read on Digital Sports that the wheels were not as
fluid as they should be, they would depress a bit then stop, then depress a
bit.  As far as the Logitech goes I'm reading that the pedals are a little
cheesy.  Do you get used to them?
If your not to tired from all the other FF post and would like to respond it
would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Logitech or ACT Labs

I own an Act Labs RS (not FF), and it's the same wheel, just without the FF
effects.  The pedals are just awesome!  Great feeling to them and the base
never tips.  The wheel is really comforatble, with its thick, and simulation
leather (they did a nice job on that).  The paddles leave a little to be
desired.  I don't use them, instead I use the two main buttons on the wheel
(works fine and even better for me).  I think in Q3 they will release the RS
Shifter, which is an add-on to the wheel.

The RS Shifter will be pretty customizable according to the type of game you
are playing.  It will sit next to your wheel, attached like the wheel (not
sitting on top of the desk).  It will have a double H pattern as the
default.  The stick looks very comfortable from pics that I have seen.  Say
you want to play a Nascar sim, simply instert a plate ontop of the base and
it covers some of the H patterns and makes it only a single H pattern.  Now
you remove that and put in another one for a Cart sim, this one will have 7
slots (only covering up the lower right hand corner slot) for 6gears + 1
reverse.  There is also a Hi-Lo plate that converts it to a sequential
(spelling?) gear shift.

I have read that if you plug the Logitech wheel into the USB port and the T2
(or Nascar pro) pedals into the gameport, that GPL will recognize both, so
you can use your TM pedals with the Logitech wheel if you own a TM pedal.
I have tested both wheels out.  My pick is with the Act Labs RS.  Now, I
haven't tested FF Forces, so you may want to do that before deciding.

Hope that was all you needed!
