I'm trying to update this to the 2006 season cars but I'm not sure how
to do this, can you guys help?

I've downloaded a 2006 season 'wad' but I'm not sure what to do next
:-(

Delete it and buy rFactor, yes, really.. Sorry not trying to be an ***,
but if you don't have rFactor, which you obviously don't or you wouldn't be
bothering with this, then you really should get it.

rF isn't much.

Don't think my machine could cope - P4-2.2 with a GeForce 4 :-(

I'm running an Athlon 1700mhz with a ti 4600.. it's ok in most cases, but
the Porsche mod kills it..

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I don't race PC sim's online (I've
got an XBOX for that) , should I still consider rFactor?

Sorry Scott, but I see nothing in RF that makes somebody absolutely reply to
someone else asking for an F1 addon to GP4, that rF is the only way to go.

Yes, it's got so many extras out there that you can find something you like.
Also you can play online if you want to, that works good too..

rFactor doesn't have the mods yet that it really is an alternative. It
also has computer requirements that many of us can't meet.

Then there's the fact that if you're happy with your racing sim, then
there's no point in getting a new one just because everyone is all hyped
up on a new one!! I race GPL still, even though it's almost 8 years old!

Anyway.

The 2006 season and the wads. Get a carpack manager! I have forgotten
where I found it, but I think there was one called "CSM" that somebody
told me everyone used.

It will help you install the wabds an dthat stuff in the right places.

Yup, the Car Set Manager. Its a must have for a GP4 fan. Should
you get it, also checkout the GP4Italia mod for the 88 season...
Its a complete season set, so you can expect attention to detail.

gp4italia.org is the link;

I have both the amazing titles (GP4 and F1 Challenge), and its
mostly free practice which I do nowadays in GP4... If not a race,
I do set a timed lap before a GP with a custom setup.

No doubt, get it, your older machine will cope with rFactor better than you
think, least mine does, (2.4 intell, 1.5 Gig ram, (worked ok with 512
Megabyts also & the TI4600) I have the 6600gt now, not much difference
overall perfomance, waiting for money to goto PCI-e then move up more...

In fact it runs rFactor much better than it will run GTL, even though I love
GTlegends a lot more gamewise, (and frankly put up with less PC perfomance
in GTLegends by a factor of .5 or half)...  Right now there are a half dosen
mods I think...  But One thing not noted in this thread so far is, REALISM
vs Having a Real "Named" series by the original coder/publisher is NOT
there.  the series are fake but based on real ones, so if  your looking to
race Villinuve for instance& his paint {ack does he even drive?, spelling
sorry} sorry Im sure there is a paint skin out there somewher eby now?

Add ons somewhat get around licensing costs/issues I believe.   In fact I
honestly feel some time soon there wont be licensing payments from game
makers in the not to distant future?  Not as much more bad or good but as a
handshake & thank you from big companies, for hopefully decent "advertising"
they would get in the sims, not that "F1" or "NASCAR" or "ALLTEL" will ever
pay for exposure in sims soon, but maybe no more EA buying up BS licensing?
After all, movies and TV don't pay Frito Lay to have characters eating
potato chips, cellphones or beverages in them....

I think the F1C mod has all of the 2006 cars in version 1.05, and you
can get most 2006 tracks off the net (Shanghai / Istanbul  being the
exception, I believe).

No, I don't think you can, but then you couldn't in F1C, either (at
least the PC version IIRC).

RSC has a huge thread entitled "re-installing does not cost you an
activation!!!!" in the rfactor section, but I am not sure if this refers
to re-installing windows or just rfactor itself.

A re-install (or multiple installs) = no activation

FORMAT - fresh install  =  activation required
(unless you have a backup of your TryMedia folder that can be restored)

The "short version"  Hope that helps
