NY> Pardon my ignorance, but could someone explain to me what BTCC is
NY> all about?
British Touring Car Championships. Probably the biggest tin-top series
in the UK, and one of the most competitive in Europe.
NY> I'm curious about the kind of car that would run in this series.
Cars are race versions of 2.0 litre saloon cars.....Renault Lagunas,
Vauxhall Vectras, Alpha 155's, Volvo 850's, Peugot 405's, etc. All run
on slicks, have highly tuned engines and suspensions etc. No high tech
stuff like ABS and traction control.....that's reserved for Class 1 cars
in the DTM. Very competitive/close racing (for 4 wheels) on proper
circuits with corners turning in both directions(!) - can be pretty
dirty at times but overall, quite fun. Big factory input, loads of dosh
circulating, and a very high standard of driver.....shame abut the
driving at times though.
NY> Is this series open class, or are there divisions or classes,
NY> displacement restrictions, etc?
There's a subclass.....same cars under same rules, but chasing the
privateer cup (ie factory cars don't count).
NY> I can't imagine you Brits running anything close to a NASCAR
NY> behemoth
Nah, you're right. These cars handle fairly well!!! B-)
If tin-tops don't bore you stupid, it's not bad racing.
But for _REAL_ racing there's too much metal and too many wheels. Watch
250GP or WSB...... _THATS_ racing!!!
Cheers!
