GP2 breakdowns!

I have just run Monaco, the 4th race in the championship season.  For
the 2nd time in these 4 races, I have broken down.  On Both occasions,
my teammate went out several laps prior with the same problem
(transmission problem).

So I would like to know this - If my teammate goes out, does that
automatically mean I won't finish the race?  Are some teams more likely
to have breakdowns than others?  Since I am driving the former Larousse
car, am I doomed to only finish 50% of the races or is this just random
coincidence?  Can I disable this particular breakdown (transmission) and
have a better chance of finishing races, or can I not edit anything in
an already begun Championship season?  Finally, why wasn't any of this
in the manual?

Mike,
I drive the Simtek and thru Spain, I had two mechanical DNFs.  On lap
3 in Spain my transmission went south and in the prior race at Monaco
I lost the RF suspension.  However, thru Hungary I have experienced no
more mechanical problems. Perhaps they just hit in spurts, or else I'm
well over due for a grenade.  Perhaps I'll lose my brakes going into
the first corner in Spa...

love this game,
eric

The manual tells you how to turn off the car failures

Oh, that reminds me...

Now that folks who have time to play a lot have had enough to figure
stuff out, has anyone learned conclusively whether, like in GP1, it
doesn't matter which car you drive, or whether, as someone suggested
shortly after the release, your performance possibilities are limited
by the car you choose?

I'd hate to have to choose a front-running car just to be competitive.
In GP1 I always chose the AGS or some other car that almost never
qualified, so that I wouldn't have to take out a key player.

At least the sim's Verstappen is rarely in the points, so it wouldn't
be so bad to take his seat, though currently I'm in Zanardi's Lotus.
Oh look! Eau Rouge! thwack!  Yep, I'm Zanardi, all right...

Well according to what I saw, the car doesn't make any difference. I
think the game is created in the same way GP1 was. When the player
choses a car this car gets some extra hp the reason why the simtek or
the pacific car can get the pole while you are the driver.
