poor f12002 performance for this system

Hello,
I just wanted to get a "second opinion" from the newsgroup.  Seems to
me that my f12002 performance is subpar for my system.

It is a Dell 4550 P4 2.53GHZ at 533MHZ FSB with 256MB ram at 400MHZ,
nVidia GeForce4 MX 420 with 64mb ram, 120GB 7200 RPM Harddrive.

I have read all of the posts regarding performance and done all of the
tweaks, but in 3Dconfig at 800x600 16 bit 60hz, can only get 19.5
MTriangles/sec.

In a race at 1024x768 32 bit 60hz and all graphics settings maxed out
I only 20-35 fps.

I also have a MSFF USB Sidewinder, but my performance doesn't improve
when using the keyboard as the controller.

Does the performance seem low to you, especially since I've done
everything recommended in the archives?

Is this graphics card a decent card in general?

Would extra ram help?

Thank you, Eric (2 week old newbie)

Only one reason for that mate..you have a terrible graphic card.

A directX 7 based cheapo..

A move to even a cheap GF4 ti4200 Golden Sample would treble those frames..

Your video card stinks for that level of a system

yup that is like Buying a Ferrari and sticking a Chevy motor in it...

My GF3 ti 4200 which is also an outdated card, can barely get into the
22million range.   Make sure you have ALL your FSAA and Ansio settings
zero'd out and make sure vsync is disabled.

What is the point of diabling V-Sync? If he could get a framerate that
exceeded his monitors refresh rate he wouldn't have a problem. A new
graphics card is definitely required.

Thanks to everyone for explaining that my video card is subpar.  I
didn't realize that and was looking at all kinds of other solutions
like setting in the game and in the graphics setup.

I guess I'll probably wait a while for a new card, since $200 seems
like a lot to play an older game.  I'll keep up with this newsgroup
and just play with decreased setting for now.

Thanks again, Eric
