GP2 suddenly crashing...

by Keepe » Sat, 11 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Hi folks... I've had a problem crop up recently with GP2 crashing
in the TV views when the cameras are supposed to switch.  In VGA
mode, the crash is accompanied by a bunch of text, which ends with
"Crash address (unrelocated) = 1:0004F8AC".  In SVGA it just locks
up.

Today I spent hours trying to track down the problem -- the new
carset, maybe going back to the original GP2.exe, sounds or other
add-ons.  Nothing stops the crashing.  The only thing that seems
to have happened on my system between the last time the game ran
without the crashes is (bum bum BUM!) having installed (and then
removed) MSIE 4.0.  Why the heck this would affect a DOS program
I can't imagine.  Even though I've deinstalled the program (I had
to just to set up my new ISP), there ARE still effects from it;
I get an odd error when I load Netscape and it tries to start up
my dialup networking, and my newsreader crashes when I grab and
scroll (to delete excess text when posting followups).

So... Anyone else had this problem? How was it fixed?  Perhaps
I should re-install the whole of GP2 from scratch...?

On a completely unrelated note...  I got to try the Ultimate
Per4Mer force-feedback wheel briefly.  Unfortunately, it was
being used just with Daytona USA.  Anyway, it felt rather like
the arcade game does.  The wheel itself has a very accurate
feel -- nowhere near as iffy as my T2.  It does seem a lack
a desire to self-center, though.
