HELP rally championships _ v. slow

by Jacka » Sun, 21 Nov 1999 04:00:00

well I cant even evaluate this game 'cos it is deathly slow - even at
640/480

I have a 300mhz P2 and 128mb ram and a voodoo 3
all the mag reviews stated that it would run fine on this spec
my toca2/gpl/CMrally/F1RS all run at lighning speed at 1024x768 with all
feautures turned on

Am I missing something ?
have tried different settings (double/triple buffering, mipmap on/off)
driver versions for voodoo 3 are:
glide2x 2.60.00.0408
glide 3x 3.10.00.0406
open gl and direct 3d drivers not present
gdi driver: 4.00.1381.0381

PLEASE HELP

Could it be the V3, I have a P3 and can barely run in 8x6 in this game
with my V3-3500, no problems in 640x480 though, but give me a break :-)

I don't think it's the V3. With Cel550/TNT2/256Mb the only res that gives
me high enough framerates is the 640x480 you mentioned. The 3D in-car
view only makes things worse. Speedwise, the bumper camera is the way
to go.

Of course, now people start crawling out of the woodwork saying they've
got totally smooth gameplay in 800x600+ but it's all so relative. If
you've tasted something like 50-60+ fps and have become used to it in so
many games, anything below 25-30 fps starts to make you sick, and that's
the case with RC.

And now that I'm all warmed up, anyone else annoyed by the fact that
visually the cars seem to have no suspension at all? That's bad news in
Polygonland - you could swear you're riding a digital signal rather than
fighting your way over the rolling hills of Highlands.
:(

Thx, I was starting to wonder....

Good point, it's like the car has no "weight" at all

Of course a V3 is powerful enough to run the game. The developers were using
a V2 most of the time. His computer is fast enough and has enough ram. What
I meant is there is a problem between the drivers of the V3 and RC. A patch
to fix it is on it's way.

From HG:

It seems a lot of people who own Voodoo3, Banshee and some other kind of 3D
cards are experiencing some problems with Rally Championship. This was
posted by one of the developers just seconds ago:

3, Banshee and Velocity 100
available. We will also be releasing a
replay cameras and other features.

An already good game getting better all the time!

We have opened the following thread on the forums at
http://forums.simracingnews.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000872.html for you to put
your suggestions for the patch in. If you haven't registered for the forums
yet, remember to do that at
http://forums.simracingnews.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=agree first and
you'll be able to post right away.

Enjoy!

I stand corrected.

I'm using a p2-333 overclocked to 400MHz and a V3 3500TV overclocked
to 200MHz.  The framerates fly at 1024x768 with the in-car driver
view.  The only time I've seen the slightest slowdown so far is in
stage 5/6 of the Vauxhall Rally of Wales.
