N4 - Still Turns Right

by Rush » Fri, 28 Sep 2001 01:17:54

I've worked on several nice N4 setups.  The only remaining problem is I must
have the wheel turned to the right going down the straights.  It doesn't
matter which track.

I understand setting the car up to have more emphasis on  making it easier
turn to left, but I have the wheel (MadCatz Andretti) cranked to the right
going down straighaways.

How have ya'll overcome this?

Thanks,
Martin

Use 100% linear setting in the controller setup screen.  You still have
to have the wheel slighty to the right, but not fully cranked.

Jason.

Thats the way it really is in real life as well, its not supposed to be
straight going down the straightaways on most ovals if you're using a proper
setup

If you get a FFB wheel you will find the left pull is much less
noticeable.

Crank the linerity up, that will help with the pull (by decreasing required
sterring travel). FF wont help much if the car and linearity aren't setup
right, it can actually inflate the pull if the linearity isn't proplery
adjusted to your taste, car setup, wheel, etc. I know, I have run this game
with both FF (LWFF) and nonFF (TSW2 Cup) and both are affected. nonFF
actually is "easier" to drive, you don't have to fight the FF in addition to
other cars, the track and the weather.

I have a better one...

TRIM TAB!

Not everything real transfers to a simulation well...

MGI listens.  Does Papy?

And that is wrong why?

That is normal and the way it should be with a very asymmetrical setup. Also
many straights are not flat and are banked. Set the car up symmetrical and
it will not pull, and you will be dirt slow. make sure your wheel setup is
100% linear or very close to it to minimize the amount you have to steer
left. If your wheel has a adjustable "dead zone", shrink this down some. You
can slow down the steering ratio if need be to compensate for adjusting
these other things.

The way most real world oval racers handle this is their wheel is installed
"turning left" (tires straight) so when they compensate for the pull on the
straights the wheel is "straight" when in actuality the front tires are
steering right a little.

Work around with your castor and camber angles.. and you should be able to
get a better results... other than that I can only think of 3 other
"solutions":

a. Get a proper wheel
b. Get used to it.
c. If both a and b. fails... : N3!

Speaking of N3, Ed.  Do you have any TPTCC setups for Bullrun?  :)

Afraid not Dave...   last time I did TPTCC at Bull Run was with N2!

You know if they got any plans for a TPTCC with N4?

YES!   We were 'told'  (ssshhhh this is a secret...)  that we might get
some testing done BEFORE the current TPTCC season ends.  We WILL do a
Bullrun 1000 this year ONLINE but with two drivers each running one very
LOOONNNNG session.
Methinks those of us who have stayed with the N3 TPTCC will have a hard
hard time figuring out these N4 monsters...  :)

On the other hand if you have it set up right you don't have to fight the
FF in the *turns*, which is part of the point of having to steer right to
go straight.
