Andrew, if you like N2 at ALL, you should really try TEN and NROS.  I think
they even have a FREE demo area now.  Check that out if you want to just
"try" it out.

Is there a way to play another person head to head (with or without AI cars)
like you do when connecting thru a modem -- over the internet and not on TEN?

I know KALI offers N1 or maybe N2... and that I believe is up to 8 racers.

But, I'm looking for a replacement to modem dial-up.  I looked thru the
readme's and online but everything I've found refers to TEN and NROS as the
only way to race thru the internet.

Thanks.

Okay, Steve, help out us Kali newbies: I haven't registered it
(YET!), but it's only found my Nas50th - not NR99.  I have a few
buddies and we all own a legal copy of NR99 and we want to race
together (just the 4 of us), so we're looking for IP.  When I tried to
add NR99's 3dfx .exe to Kali it wouldn't run it.  Did I do something
wrong?
How does heat.net work? Do we have to join another race, or
can we sponsor our own?  I'm gonna try to get there today and check it
out, but I'm sure I'll need some info more in line with "English,"
y'know?

You can munualy set up NASCAR 99 in the Kali "Configure Games" menu.
It is not at all difficult.
As for HEAT, go to www.heat.net and register for an account and
download the software.  You can  use the settings for NASCAR 2 for
N99.  You have the option of creating your own games and joining
otheres.  Another option would be Zone LAN at www.zone.com.  Setup is
similar to HEAT, but when you start a game, you will be prompted to
enter the location of the N99 file (ie:
c:\games\sierra\nr1999\n19993d.bat)
It is also important that you realize that multiplayer games can only
be run with the DOS bat files, not the exe's.  So, for instance, when
you are setting up N99 on Kali, be sure to use nr19993d.bat file (if
you are usinf the 3dfx version).

I hope this helps.

You know, I'll bet THAT was my problem: not pointing to the
DOS files (MUST run from .bat?!)...  Ahhhhh.....
So THEN, we can set up a 5-car race just between US??!!!  TOO
COOL!!

.......and let's not forget the headache that the multi.lsts can
sometimes cause.  Ugh!  I am sincerely hoping (and I'm quite sure that
they will) that Papyrus adds TCP/IP support in NASCAR 3. It would seem
that the ability to play with others so effortlessly made lots of
people attempt to tame the incredibly difficult GPL.

Anyone used Ten and NROS from Canada.  I tried a year or so ago (maybe two)
and I couldn't play nascar 2 over TEN from here.

Chris,

Don't worry, your game is most likely functioning fine.  It is also
not necessary that you register, though you should because the free
subscription to InterACTION is quite nice.

You can only access the multiplayer feature in the DOS .bat files:

nr1999.bat for the normal, unaccelerated version
nr19993d.bat for the 3DFX version
nr1999r.bat for the Rendition version

Multiplayer, unfortunately, can not be accessed through windows.
Bummer, I know.

Good luck,

Kilgore Trout

You shouldn't have a problem at all from Canada.  There's at least 100+
people on the NROS from up here in Canada.  We are part of the same global
North American Internet architecture.  And it,s less of a mess up here, so
you have less hops going directly into the 3 servers (in San Francisco,
Chicago and Boston).

I constantly have a green flag from Montreal.  If you have problems, try to
switch to another ISP.

Actually, according to MCV magazine, Sierra's discontinued
InterACTION effective May 1, 1999.
