The trackside trees in GP2 especially at Hockenheim, Imola, Monza and Spa
really slow down the framerate.

Ofcourse I can turn them off using the "ALT D" details toggle but that also
means I lose stuff like houses, track adverts, cranes, grandstands etc.
This is unacceptable for me.

I've removed the tree jams from the gamejams directory but that just leaves
huge swathes of grey walls all around the track where the trees used to be.
So this is an unacceptable solution too.

So, how do I remove the trees, and the grey walls and at the same time keep
the other details.?

Determine what the coding is for the graphics, go into the core of the
program and re-write it.

I can't remember the exact files, but there are certain files which
can be deleted to speed things up. I think I mentioned this in my
Hockenheim track guide which you can find on Pieter's / Sjon's GP2
page. Hang on <sound of rummaging on hard disk>, okay here is the
paragraph...

"A final tip. You want a little extra speed by removing the trees, but
turning down the detail removes the buildings too? Well, try moving
the files t_monsp1.jam, t_monsp2.jam & t_monsp3.jam to a temporary
directory. Your "trees" may look a little funny, more like a race
around the streets of New York or Tokyo, but it will speed things up!"

Have fun,
John

Although some of the other people who responded think this is a stupid question,
it ISN'T any more since the track editor is making progress! Don't know whether
it already supports removal of objects, but if it doesn't yet, it certainly will
in the (not so distant) future.
