comparatively to TEN\N2 I was a tad disappointed with lag in the N3 demo. I
Have a 56k Winmodem connecting at 28.8 - 31.2. It did fairly well on a near
100 ping..  but the 400 Ping game was unplayable. It seems like maybe the
anti-lag features that TEN had just aren't present.

How does GPL or even the full version of Nascar 3 compare to this? All
things considered, I want to have a fun clean race, where I don't crash into
someone because their care is unpredictable or disappears.

........I'm waiting for DSL....

The anti-lag feature on TEN was a little flag that wouldn't let you join a
race unless you had a decent latency. If you have a good host computer with
a good connection to the net, and all the clients that connect have low
latency to the host, racing with N3 will be indistinguishable from TEN.
(except that you can see better because of the improved graphics <G>)

While checking my configuration on my winmodem, I noticed that software
compression was enabled, and I could not find error correction.  Will
disabling software compression affect anything with regards to logging onto
the net, checking my email etc? Because of the local phone line limitations,
I am basically limited to connections of either 44 or 45.33 connections, and
while I am surviving with this connection, any additional advantage I could
have I would like, thats why I would like to know  if disabling software
compression helps, without any negative effects...

Every time you raced on TEN, the server was a high end Sun workstation
connected directly to a major internet backbone.

With N3 it's a ***shoot, sometimes your running on a high-end
dedicated server connected via T1 line, other times it's a cable modem
on a P200.

GPL servers seem to be a lot more consistent, but there are less of
them. The races you do find are usually a lot more stable since both
the servers and the clients in most cases have more experience at
maximizing their connections for internet racing.

You might try turning off error correction and disabling software compression.

Junk the winmodem.  Not only does it drain your resources(memory) if
you find yourself in a laggy race, your warping will affect the other
drivers.
2nd.  Don't repeat don't join 400 ping races.  try to keep em under
250.  Be your own anti-lag feature.
N3 has a beta patch that is now up to version 6 to improve online play.
I don't think a patch can overcome the basic problem of net *** which
is using a convoluted system that was never intended for ***.

GPL is great.. even with up to 600-700 ping..

N3 is crap..  with 300 Lat (not sure what that is in ping..  I'm sure it
isn't 300ping)
