Terminal Reality with a new sim ?

by Olav K. Malm » Tue, 09 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

For some strange reason, probably to check out what all the fuss with Nocturne
is about, i checked the news section on the Terminal Reality web site. As
probably everyone know this is the guys who made the _almost_ very good
CART Precision Racing.

In the news section there was something about an new ground based sim soon to
be announced. But nothing more than that. Do anyone know anything more ?

Not sure when we will announce it but when we do you can be sure that it
will also be posted here. I'm always lurking on this site reading it every
day. :-)

Good.  Even if C:PR was a disappointment for me, I still think the game
engine actually can be modified in a good way.  Any hint on what it could be
?  Arcade-style, simulator ? And it will still use the game engine or a new
one?

Ever notice the uncanny similarity in damage modelling between Fly! &
CPR??

The box said "Windows 95 or better", so I installed LINUX!

Despite CART Precision Racing's problems, I still think it's got the best
sensation of speed in any racing sim, as well as the most accurate engine
sounds.  The sound of the gears shifting is right on.  Also, the
horsepower/weight ratio is very close, as these cars accellerate just like
their big brothers.  The AI is the weakest link, but for test drives and hot
laps, it's really an excellent sim.  I'm sure if there were a CPR II where
the shortcomings were all addressed, it could be very close to GPL overall
and perhaps even surpass it in some aspects.

So very true, but I also find the steering very difficult. Even with the MSFF
the car does not want to go in a straight line. The brakes have too little
travel too.

Apart from that, a very good hotlapping sim. I think it was one of the first
that modelled the wheels individually, so the car actually steered with the
front wheels, not around a z-axis through the middle of the car.
