37-mile "Mountain Circuit" similar to GPL's Thornham, interspersed with
narrow country lanes that look more like rally stages. On a variety of
bikes ranging from 125cc to 1-liter, the same bunch of riders (all U.K.
specialists, with delightful Brit names like 'Milky Quayle') hit 170 mph and
post lap averages of 125 mph! They aren't supposed to be racing
wheel-to-wheel (they're flagged off at intervals, like the Mille Miglia),
but of course they catch each other up, and go two-wide where a donkey cart
would be a tight fit. Absolutely the most dangerous-looking motor racing
going on anywhere in the wrold today (and they've been at it since 1907).
The big winner was David Jeffries, who despite the fact that he's so big he
looks like he's riding kiddie bikes, won three races in the week-long speed
fest. Catch it in re-runs.
