Roger Wilco is a voice program that works with any of the newer games that
use DirectX.
I've used it with Longbow2, and Age of Empires.   But not racing yet.  There
is another program
called Battlefield Communicator that does the same thing.  Both programs
were written by
flight simmers but the programs work with just about any kind of program.
Roger Wilco is still
in BETA and is free at least til March 15.  you can find it at
www.resounding.com

Battlefield communicator is made by shadowfax.   a quick search should bring
up the web site.
have fun

Yes I have tried it, seems to work OK although it did take alot of
adjusting to get the game/voice volume setting to an acceptable level.
When I host a game on VROC and am using Roger Wilco I put that in my
comments field incase there is anyone out there also using it.

It does not "seem" to have an adverse affect on connections but my
testing is far from conclusive.

Good luck.

What is Roger Wilco?  Voice over IP, voice recognition for chatting on GPL,
...?  I was wondering if there's any product out there that would let two
people speak to each other (i.e., over IP to avoid long distance bills)
while playing GPL over the net.

I'm trying to help my brother learn the tracks and get faster at GPL, but
it's hard to tell him when to brake, what gear to be in when exiting
corners, etc., by typing in chat window - probably harder for him to read
when braking from 190 mph :)

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I actually did a search for Shadowfax and I think it turned out to be some
musician.  Roger Wilco is pretty nice, though, been using it to talk long
distance with buddies and if local net traffic's not to bad it works
great!  Only game I've tried it with so far is Links LS, with a buddy
about 4000 miles away, and it worked no probs.  Ya, me Zog.

Shadowfax was indeed Gandalf's horse in the Lord of the Rings.  There is
also a jazz lite band by that name.  Kind of twee (warning - American
using British slang) to name your band that, if you ask me.

Let's see if my memory serves me well... Shadowfax was indeed the name
of Gandalf's horse.  There was a Chicago "jazz/fusion" band called
Shadowfax (named after Tolkien's Ring books' horse for Gandalf).  For
more info on the band, go to http://www.allmusic.com (great database for
music).  From allmusic.com:
"One of new age electronic music's earliest and best-known proponents,
Shadowfax was formed in Chicago in 1972 by saxophonist Chuck Greenberg,
guitarist G.E. Stinson and bassist Phil Maggini. Originally a blues
band, the trio soon began exploring chamber jazz and folk; even medieval
music began creeping into the mix, appropriately enough for a group
named in honor of a horse from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
series."
