I have just been playing the demo of Re-Volt (Racing) by Acclaim.
It is a lot of fun.  You are racing toy remote control cars, but it is
really well done.
My Gpl skills (if you would call them that) seem to translate over fairly
well
after a short learning curve.

It is a very entertaining game... sure glad you didn't mention MP.

Powerslide's the ticket when you're frustrated with GPL and want to engage
in some fast, furious single-player OR multi-player racing.  Check out the
demo at http://www.ratbaggames.com/ if you haven't already.  I haven't
downloaded the ReVolt demo yet, so I can't compare, but I do know that I've
been switching back-and-forth between GPL and Powerslide a lot lately --
which speaks very well of Powerslide!

Sorry Andre.. I should have said very entertaining, for 5 minutes (if you
are Andre Warringa) but pales in comparison to GPL.

Chill out Andre. He said it was fun. He didn't say it was a sim or a
replacement for a sim. Just a relaxing break from GPL. Have you even tried
it ? I downloaded it and think it's a blast. As an old RCer I thought they
did an excellent job with the game. So good in fact that I plan to dig out
and dust off my RC cars and see if GPL has helped my driving in RC since I
haven't touched the cars in about three years. This thread isn't any more
off topic than half the other  stuff posted here.

Sorry, I should stop drinking so much coffee late in the evening :)
If you're having fun with revolt, that's great!

Sorry for being a little bit harsch, it must be because vroc was down

.. hate to admit it, but I explored the demo to it's fullest. I ran the time
demo with my son and shamefully he had the fastest time for 2 weeks.

I now own the full version and am quite satisfied with the sense of speed
(in car view) I can get.

It in no way compares to GPL since GPL are '67 F1 cars and these are RC
cars.. but it is quite fun to pick up an arcade racer and have some fun for
the hell of it.

Re Volt - fun game to play when you get frustrated with GPL

IMHO, a few of the best parts about ReVolt:

1) The cars are easily editable with notepad (better AI + higher speeds =
more fun!)
2) They get right up on the edge of licensing, and the cars look realistic
(most of them) (one of the buggies has XX4 on the wing - a trademark car
licensed by Team Losi, who has a (from what I have heard very poor) game of
their own)
3) It's downright fun to go zipping around a neighborhood and not having to
worry about spending $400 to fix your car when it gets run over!!

Re Volt - fun game to play when you get frustrated with GPL

by amp » Thu, 09 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I think that this game has everything to do with sim
racing. It is a far more accurate simulation of real R.C.
car physics than most full sized auto sims provide for
their respective cars.
The cars move and react just like the actual R.C. cars that
I have owned. Controlling them can be tough, since these
cars are very light weight and have hair trigger twitchy
handling in real life as well as in this game.
I liked this game demo enough that I went out and bought it
3 days ago. It's an amazing piece of graphics and physics
programming IMHO . The demo is only the tip of the iceberg.
The track designer module, while limited , allows you to
make some pretty fun and demanding race tracks, and is not
as bad as I have heard some reviewers comment. Sure, you
can't make the awesome premade tracks and environments that
come with the game, but you can create some nice little
diversions if you invest some time. I have not seen any
better track designers that have come packaged with a game.

Hey Goy!

Well, not really. You can shift the view to the same viewpoint as the driver
would have, but the car itself is removed (no dash or hood). Very similar to
a front bumper camera.

I picked this one up and have to say it is extremely well done, from physics
to graphics to the sheer fun factor. The cars take some skill and practice
to properly control, particularly since they are prone to snap oversteer
under braking and corner turn-in. If you thought you had to be going in a
straight line before braking to prevent oversteer in GPL, well, you ain't
seen nothing yet.

Great fun when you need a break from the "serious" sims.

What!?  A mutual apology on Usenet?  In r.a.s, even?  The end is near!

In all seriousness, it's extremely refreshing...
