Makinnen was driving a Williams set up for a certain Jacques Villeneuve
last year, as was Mick Doohan. Both of them had what could be called big
"moments" :P

There was a semi-automatic car on Top Gear a couple of weeks back...
think it was one of the new Jaguars, can't remember. But the thing I do
remember was that the left button on the wheel was for up and I
immediately wondered if it could be configured to be the other way round.

I automatically chose right as up when I got my wheel last year... not sure
why, it just seemed like the "right" way to do it.

I'm left handed, so I shouldn't have any right-ocentric instincts.

That's exactly how you should choose it.  The right way is the way you
feel comfortable doing it.  I don't have paddle shifters (yet...), but
on my T2 I setup the stick to shift up when you push forward and
downshift when you pull back, because that's the way I like it despite
my friend's insistence that it's backwards.

So am I.  Don't know what that proves, I just felt obligated to
mention it for some reason.  :-)

It's not so bad - you get used to it.

On my F1 Sim wheel, I have the left paddle set-up to change *up* a gear,
and the right paddle changes *down*.
