...but...mere minutes ago...

I BROKE 1:30 AT MONZA!!!!!
WOOHOO! YES! WHOZE DA MAN? ME!!!! MUAHAHAHA!!

I've been at 1:30:6x for about a month in the Ferrari, so I decided to
break out the Lotus with one of Allison's setups. 8 gallons of gas.

A few warm-up laps to get the feel and then dig in... 1:31:05...ok I'm
on to something...1:30:54...PB and room for more...1:30:15...so close...
1:30:00!!! ...OMG ... another lap, push harder!... clipped the armco
coming out of the first Lesmo, spin and crash, what's my time for that
last lap???!!!??? Escape and check the times...1:29:76!!! YES! YES! YES!
Almost three years in the making! Guess I should have bought a wheel a
long time ago. Time for a drink!

Thanks for listening.

P.S.  Synchronicity strikes! I was watching RaceWeek on Speedvision
tonight. They did a bit on Montoya's win at Monza and the announcer
said, "Nice win in Italy, J. P." An omen? Still grinning.

Congrats!  I'm still hovering around 1:32 in the Lotus, 1:33 in the
Ferrari, so I guess I have a ways to go yet.  OTOH I have only been at
this for a few months, so I guess I just need to be more patient.  Hope
to join you soon!  ;o)

Congrats, nice one. Two JP's score in Monza hey? You should be timing
your gpl practice with Montoya's in the future... US GP next?

Yay! The only bad thing about doing it is that it's all downhill from
here - no other milestone (not even a negative GPLRank) has given me
the same high as breaking that 1:30 barrier. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I disagree, the 1:30 at Silverstone is a nice one :D

Me disagrees, too. Other milestones for me were/are:
2:00 at Rouen,
8:30 at the Ring,
1:06 at the Glen,
1:20 at Kya (to do),
1:20 at Mosport (to do),
1:50 at Mexico (to do).
Others?

3:20 at Spa and 1:30 at Monaco are still on my "to do" list (just that
last tenth to crack at Monaco dammit!)

And going negative on St Eldred's Cup (where's he been lately?)

I look forward to crossing the magic 8:00 at the ring.... 8:08 is my best
and I have not been able to improve that the last 4-5 months, so I guess
I'll have to wait a looooong time for that barrier to go down.

IMHO 1:30 at Monza, going negative on the rank, and 8:00 at the ring are the
3 big ones.

Given the reachable level of most of these milestones, I think you might
want to re-think your Mosport goal. 1:20 at Mosport is approaching alien
level - I've reached all these other goals but I'm still in the high 22's at
Mosport with no improvement in sight.

Me too ;)). Ok, let's head for the 1:21 first. I just posted 1:20 because
it's a nice round number.
Oh, and how could I forget the 3:20 at Spa...thanks for the reminder, Rafe
;). I've done a 3:18 there so far, but I cannot see any chance to shave of
another 5 seconds to come even close to the wr.
I think some people are just gifted with certain skills, like Schumi or
Senna in F1, or any other extraordinary athlete in any sport you want. And
it's another proof for the extreme realism that GPL provides for it really
sorts out. There are only a few who are outstandingly good, who are able to
master these beasts.

Dunno if your kidding or not David? but I've had plenty of other
great moments in GPL. Hell I broke Monza 1:30 before the first
patch less then a month after it hit the shelves in 98' and I'm still
finding new barriers to knock down. Of course I aint a negative
GPLRank and might never be either but I dont care...  :)
