I know that I have read somewhere that you can use your (old) N99
tracks with N3.That makes my question, How do you change the calander file? Is
this done the same way as before, in N99,N2?
I think that you need to convert all of the .pcx's to .tga's, but upon doing
this I was then told that this needed to be in 16.7million colors and that's
where I ran amuck. I did not remember what to do next and if I even had to
change all of those .pcx files.
So a little help and guidance is asked of you here by a fellow Racer.
Great sim so far...IMHO...this is the best of the lot...
Has anyone heard about any "additional cars(drivers not included) sites
working on those drivers/cars yet?
A great big thanks to all of you talented people for taking up where Papy
leaves off with the car designs. If it wasn't for the work you All do in
adding these additional files, the game would just be another OK racing
sim.....So THANKS To you as well.

I imagine IWCCCARS (http://www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/) has begun work
on some cars. Another good site is Racing Paint Shop at
http://apexwebs.net/ifreezn/rps/  but it will be some time before a
bunch are available. Give the guys some time to paint! :)

Yup.  I can't quite remember the calender format N2 uses, but N3
calender format is the same as NR99's.

You can go to either www.nascar-3.com or www.theuspits.com  Both sites
have an update of those .tga files that you need, although the two
sites offer different track graphic for those .tga files.  You can
check it out so you don't have to bother converting files.

Well, I dunno about easy.  I tried it with Cleveland and Mid Ohio, and both
tracks now give me "Could not load complete track description".  Both work
perfectly with N2.  All I did was copy the folders over to N3, and run the
patch from The Pits for those tracks.

Any clue as to what could the problem be?

Be sure you add the extra lines in the track.txt (cleveland.txt etc) that
resides in your track directory. Open
up a N3 track.txt and compare...by the way, N99 already had most of these
modifications
Here's a list of some lines that's necessary:

BLAPT (BLAP already exist, this one is for trucks
RELST (RELS is for cars, this is for trucks)
TIRET (TIRES is for cars...)
RAIN
SUN
If your not sure what values you're gonna enter, copy from another
track.txt...or copy the "car" values to "truck" values (copy TIRES
to a new line and rename it to TIRET)

There's an AIDMG entry in N3 which you might want to add (not sure what it
stands for, some damage parameter for AI cars)

Also change CARS to 44 to race with full field.

I'm not sure if you need a rectruk.txt in the track directory as well, just
copy your records.txt (I have this from N99).

The logos are in TGA-format in N3, if you want to include logos in your
calendar file you have to convert the old PCX files
to TGA (there are logos for download at http://www.nascar-3.com/)

I've managed to add all the tracks from my N99, including the "Daytona" (a
Nascar 1 converted Talladega with new graphics)

Yea, I did that too, from PitsPatch N3.  Still didn't work...:(

Hmm...I remember having problems moving some tracks from N2 to N99....the
things that differ between N2
and N99 is that Craftsman Trucks and BGN cars are added....but since
Cleveland and MidOhio are converted
from Indy2 (with the Indy-N2 Converter) I guess the problem resides inside
the track.dat file. The
track.3do, track.3dr, track.cam, track.scr and track.trk (or other files)
might be missing or erraneous. I had those tracks in N2
but they are not in my N99 so I guess I failed to convert them to N99 when
N99 came and simply erased them.

N3 Tracks/Calanders/Cars

I believe your problem is that N3 only allows 40 entries in the calendar
file and a maximum of 44 tracks in the tracks directory.  Any more than the
above and you'll get the "cannot load" error.

N3 Tracks/Calanders/Cars

Dave: That's not it.  I'm at 38 tracks and calendar entries.

Lars: Even though they worked perfectly in N2 just prior to conversion, they
might still be corrupted?  I thought of that, but after the third install of
these tracks, I'd have to rule that one out.

I even re-converted them without trees.  No luck there either.  :(

I guess the question is, has ANYONE gotten ICR2 tracks to work in N3?

IIRC, you can actually have 62 track directories in Nas50th
and above.

...but then, I've been known to be wrong...

I've also found that when I add the tracks that are in N2/N1999 (and missing
in N3, including the ICR2-converted tracks) using The Pit's N3 Patch, N3
will exit to the desktop if there are more than 40 races in the calendar
file (all.cal).  I have no problems running N3 with 50 track directories.

Unfortunately, unlike N1999, I haven't seen a way to select different
calendars for Single Race selection.

My findings also showed that if there are more than 40 races in the all.cal
file, it will exit to desktop. Also, in Championship setup, if you select a
*.cal file with more than 40 races, it will kick you to desktop.

I tried the Pits' N3 patch, it didn't work for me. This did, however...
- I copied the tracks from the N99 CD (truck tracks, Pocono, N.Wilkesboro)
to the ../tracks folder (well, of course).
- I unzipped the Pits Patch zip file to a temp directory.
- I extracted the files.exe folder to a temp directory, giving me an exe
file for each track.
- For each track's exe file, I opened it with WinZip, displaying a
(trackname).txt file and 3 tga files.
- I extracted these to the proper track's folder, replacing the existing txt
file.
- I deleted any pcx files in the track's folder, as I hear they are no
longer used
- I edited the txt file for each track, bumping the field to 44 cars
- I backed up and edited all.cal, copying lines from the all.cal provided
with the Pits' patch, and tweaking the race dates - very carefully.

I can now race at the N99 tracks. Yes, this was a long and laborious way to
do this, but it did the trick. I spent way too much time configuring this
game and not enough time racin'!
