Veering slightly OT: DX7 - does it still suck

Ok, with all the horror stories I've read about DirectX 7, I have'nt
bothered to install it. Is there a new version that isn't gonna make
me want to send 4 loads of 12ga. varmint shot through my whole
system....?

I am REAL itchy to check out the demo of EA's Superbike 2000 I just
got from PC Gamer but it says it needs DX7.0

It looks soooo good and the screen shot from the on-board just screams
"ride me" - Can anybody confirm the commercial (is it really as good
as they say) or is it just eye candy with no cream filling.....?

we really can't say.  DX7a is the latest so make sure you get that if
you jump.  But...everytime there is a dx upgrade we get lots of messages
about how Dx broke their whole system.  I've used, 3, 5, 6, 6.... and 7
and 7a without any problems.  As with anything regarding  the 1000's of
possible computer hardward configurations, some things can go wrong.

I had a few controller problems with DX7, but the DX7a patch fixes most of that
stuff. I haven't had any problems since updgrading. Check MS' DX site for the
patch.

Dx7a seems to be pretty stable, and it is the latest.
