Hacking Hawaii...

by IamRac » Fri, 05 Jul 1996 04:00:00

After having a few very late night on hawaii. I saw a name that was
odd, and the lap times he was running were even more odd, try 203 at Tally
in qualifing.  After the race me and a few others got him to admit that he
was testing "hacks" of files that are currently available.  And I have
just come aware that he has his own name for his free time.  Those of you
who can think of someone too fast at Dega, the name Huggins comes to mind
doesn't it.  That's right Pete Huggins uses hacks for Hawaii.  Look out
for him if he's racing you, for he's cheating.  And in the long run he's
hurting us, after all, we can't beat a cheat!

I have no intentions of hurting anyone.

Hawaii is in BETA test.

I have been exchanging e-mail with Charlie Heath and Ed Martin about
hacking Hawaii and how to protect the integrity of the NRL.  They have
welcomed the attention and information that I have been providing
them.  At the same time, they have been looking out for YOU.
I am being encouraged to use the Hawaii ID TESTER01 when trying out
new ways to hack using Hawaii.  I am also being encouraged to minimize
the impact on YOU, a user of the production HAWAII system.

At one time, my old ID "Huggins" was retired, but I do not know for
how long.  I built it up to a skill level 9 before I started playing
around with hacks.  Then one night, I got crashed repeatedly by
overagressive opponents who could not hold their line and by
backmarkers who would not move over or hold their line.  So I decided
to give myself an advantage.  It did not take long to move from 9 to
11 using my hacks :-).   At one time, part of the "punishment" for
getting caught/admitting that I have been hacking Hawaii was that the
ID would go away and I would have to start over again at 0.

I have a new ID, "RHUGGINS" which I use when I am not testing new
hacks to the system.  If you see that ID, I will not be cheating.  If
you see TESTER01, I will be trying to cheat.  I do not know what you
mean by "free time".  None of us are paying for the BETA use of the
Hawaii server.  I pay my own long distance bill just like everyone
else does.

Papyrus (Charlie Heath) can now detect, but has not yet blocked, many
of the holes in the Hawaii system.  After some time of logging the
detected altered files, I suspect some conclusions will be made and
the alterations will be blocked and you will not be allowed to race
with altered files.  Note that I cannot speak for Papyrus.  I do not
work for Papyrus.  I am just someone who likes to race and wants to
help ensure a level playing field.

If my BETA testing has offended anyone, I apologize.

If I have ever crashed into YOU and you think it was intentional or
uncalled for, I apologize.  It is alot harder making the tri-oval at
Talladega with a few more MPH... :-)  !!!!

Please do not ask me for my utilities or my patches (unless you have
lots of money and you want to pay my phone bills! <grin> ).
Seriously, Papyrus can now log EVERY existing "hack" that I am capable
of.  Extra bandwidth in the log files that Papyrus is keeping would
only cause confusion.

Besides, once you can qualify at 200+, take the pole, and then leave
everyone else in the dust, what fun is there?  :-)

I will admit that I have enjoyed following, drafting, and :-) passing
the leaders of a few races at Talladega.  I think it was the time I
passed some of the best on the outside of T3/T4 that really caused
some suspicion.

With the permission of Charlie Heath and Ed Martin, I will continue to
look for new, as of yet undetectable, holes in the Hawaii system.  If
I can find the holes, you can bet someone else smarter than me can
too.  Remember, seriously, this is still a BETA test and the goal is a
level playing field for all of us once the NRL starts up.

Anyone out there care for a "hack" contest on Hawaii?  I'll nominate a
race and create a chat room this Friday night (7/12/96) at 11:00
eastern time, Talladega, NAME=HACKER, PASSWORD=HACKER, where anything
goes.  Use your best "hack", "cheat", or whatever and let's see who
can do what.  Everyone is welcome.  Winner gets bragging rights to
"Hawaii Hacker of the Month for July 1996".

In conclusion, IamRacer (I do not see your real name), my real name is
Robert Huggins, not Pete Huggins.  I am not trying to hurt you in the
long run.  You are right, we can't beat a cheat.  So let's try to plug
all of the cheat holes during this BETA test phase.

Best Wishes!!!
