Slightly OT: Server admin software

Hi everyone,

This is slightly off topic, but I want to find out if anyone knows of some
really good Remote desktop control software which works well with 3D
games/sims.  Microsoft's RDP is really good, but it doesn't work with 3D
applications (ie F1C etc..).  I have been trying RealVNC and it's not bad
over teh LAN, but via Cable modem (128k up) it's pretty ordinary.

There are a lot around, but I haven't found any good reviews or advice on
what is good.

Would love to know other ppls experiences and advice?

Thanks,

James Pickard

Hi James,

we are using Remote Administrator since a few months for our online league
(F1C-based).
Infos and the download can be found here:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Just in case (if Radmin***up) we have also RealVNC installed, so if one
software isn't working we still can get access to the server.

Bit pricey considering RealVNC is free...especially if you've got a few PC
to control.

Try TightVNC - http://www.tightvnc.com/ or setting up Terminal Services
however that works.

Hey all, I got XP machines that I tried loading VNC, that VNC wont connect
to any machines that have xp on them(and of course the VNC client on, all
from inside the same lan/firewall too), so anyone else having this problem?
I played with radmin till the time up, but again never tried to remotely
control my XP machine from any other machines...

Do you have Windows firewall turned on on any of the machines?

Nope no XP walls on, I noticed when I firewalled xp, you couldnt use
someone's shared printers.  maybe it is just me?

But I have "black vipered" them (website) upon de-boxing these pc's...  Sure
I can control a win9x machine from xp, but not the other way around as I had
hoped...  I also hoped to be able to FIX mom's machine from my house.   half
the time it is me only needing to see the screen or showing where to click.
Almost got into considering one of the commercial "Go To My PC apps"
(pcanywhere) that I hear commercials about.

I've been using PCAnywhere for years to access and control my server by
remote.  I also have VNC on the server, but very rarely use it. PCA
refreshes MUCH faster, and you can actually see the NR03 window (chat
screen, driver connections, etc) in PCA, where VNC shows a black window.
PCA isn't cheap, but it's darn good!!

I dunno - it works fine on my XP boxes, even from home...  If you don't have
the XP firewall turned on, I don't have any other suggestions.
