Well, that's that. As we always knew (in Europe) - CART is tops; IRL is
definitely second-best. That's not to say IRL is a bad series - but I
don't think it's going to produce too many global stars any time
soon...

Agreed.

Only one IRL driver on the lead lap. The Indy 500 seems very similar
now to a Busch Grand National race. In those races the better Winston
Cup drivers generally clean up.

I figure the Indy 500 will do one of two things. 1) Go back to CART
or 2) prohibit non IRL drivers from competing. I think it is now an
embarrassment.

It's like those IRL drivers aren't even in the same league.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :-)

No IRL drivers on the leap lap.  The top IRL driver was one lap down.

Actually, I wish I'd thought of that line.  : )

Second-best?!  Maybe in your world.  But I would rank the IRL behind
ALMS, F3000, F3, Indy Lights, Formula Atlantic, Formula Nippon, BTCC +
plus all other touring car series, etc.

The IRL drove the IRL 497.5 last sunday.

It may be a UK-only usage, but here "second-best" in that context means
much the same as "second-rate" - ie, not very good at all.
