I had the same problem. It is the Matrox G200 with the 1.5 Bios installed.
Flash to the 1.3 bios and you will be able to get into the sound setup
screens. Appears that the latest bios doesn't support all VESA
implementations. I found this fix on one of the Matrox user group sites.
The previous bios can be found at Matrox. Make sure you first delete the
MGA\SETUP directory before installing the newer (older) bios program. The
reason is the Matrox install program will not overwrite the present .BIN
files. It won't tell you that either. Do the install and the flash the
bios from a dos prompt using the readme.txt instructions. The name of the
file you need at Matrox is SETUP343.ZIP.
