Nascar 2 No sound :( on a new system.

by Jerry Rodrigu » Wed, 18 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I just did a clean install of win98. My mobo is the ASUS P2B
PII-400
CL- PCI64

Nascar 2 installs but I cannot run the sound set up. During the install of N2, I
get the message, your system is configred properly to play wave files. But the
game has no sound.

Any ideas?

Jerry,

I had the same problem with a similar system and someone posted this fix that
worked for me:

Manually set up the soundcard as a: Soundblaster Pro Mono
Address 220
IRQ 5
DMA 1

-don

Drop down to your DOS window and type "set" at the prompt.  Look for a line
that says "Blaster" and write down your Address, DMA, and IRQ settings that
show there.  Go to your sound setup and plug those in with your soundcard
name as SoundBlaster.  This worked for me when I got my new system in
September.  Hope it does for you too.  Good luck.

My problem is the Sound set-up program aborts when I start it up.

I'm really sorry I totally misread your problem there.  I haven't
experienced that but are you trying it with or without the CD in the drive?

This is the message I get when I run sound set up:

Unable to begin VGA graphics mode.

Type "n2" to run Nascar racing 2.

If I run the game, the graphics are fine. I just cannot get any sound. This is
on a new system.

Thanks for any help!

Nascar 2 No sound :( on a new system.

I had the same problem.  It is the Matrox G200 with the 1.5 Bios installed.
Flash to the 1.3 bios and you will be able to get into the sound setup
screens.  Appears that the latest bios doesn't support all VESA
implementations.  I found this fix on one of the Matrox user group sites.
The previous bios can be found at Matrox.  Make sure you first delete the
MGA\SETUP directory before installing the newer (older) bios program.  The
reason is the Matrox install program will not overwrite the present .BIN
files.  It won't tell you that either.  Do the install and the flash the
bios from a dos prompt using the readme.txt instructions.  The name of the
file you need at Matrox is SETUP343.ZIP.
