Was going to retire, but now...

by Cossi » Wed, 09 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Yesterday I said I was going to retire from sim racing because I need some
money to pay the downpayment on my new car. But after thinking about it all
night, i felt that it is not worth paying 8K down on a 20K car. So***
that, even if I sell my computer stuff, I would still be 2500 short. So oh
well, I am back in the sim racing world. But now i am different, I would
strictly run GPL (or GP3 when it comes out)

Another reason for me to come back is that I started to play GPL earlier
tonight. I just love the way I can drift all over the damn track (although
most of the time I spin out). Also the tracks back in the 60s are breath
taking. I still don't know how people can take the chicane at Monaco flat
out. That is just plain scary, thank god it is only a sim..

Today I spent about half an hour practicing at Monza, I found the stock
setup has a BAD UNDERSTEER!!! The car would barely turn. I have to pump the
ARB by at least 80% before the car can take a turn.  Oh yeah did someone
able to take the Ascari Curve and Curve Grande flatout? I heard rumors about
people taking those 2 turns flat out. For me personally, I don't think it is
possible. UNLESS you want to taste the wall/grass.

Anyway my finally point is that my computer is not for sale anymore (sorry!)
SCGT and GPL are sold to EldredP (looks like i have to find myself another
copy on ebay hahaha)  but i do have 1 thing i still want to sell. One of
those Thrustmaster ACM card. It is in good working order. I just can't use
it now because my stupid ass sound card won't let me work with it. I have
tried many different settings. Since I am going to USB Force feedback wheel
real soon anyway. So I am not even going to bother with it. If you are
interest in the ACM card, e-mail me. make me an offer

I sold my copy to him. That's no big deal. I will grab another copy off ebay.
That's how I got my first one

.  Oh yeah did someone

Noone can take Curva Grande flat, but Ascari certainly can. Not too
difficult, as long as you have the right setup and enter the corner
well. But why are you selling GPL if you are going to keep racing????

Finally you got your sense back! :)

Imho the Monaco chicane is the most dangerous part from all the tracks
in GPL. It takes a lot of practice to get it right, but once you have
the feeling for it, you can do it again and again. Or so they say....

CG can't be taken flat out, allthough it can be taken at a very high
speed. Just tap the brakes a little bit before entering CG, slide to
the right, keep the throttle neutral, and just when you pass the tree
on you right, get back on the gas and drift to the right.
This is the basic technique, study a lot of replays from those alien
fastlappers to see how it should be done.

EldredP sold your copy of GPL? Uhhh...
a) If you want to keep on playing GPL, why do you sell your copy?
b) Eldred, why on earth do you want to buy a second copy of GPL?
Just curious here.

Anyway, this message made a lot more sense than the one you posted
yesterday :)

I still don't know how people can take the chicane at Monaco flat
| out.

Look at where you are going, not at the walls you are trying to avoid - as
soon as I started doing this I found I crashed there a lot less often.

Oh yeah did someone

Curve Grande no, well I've never seen it done, Ascari - every time even with
a bad setup, unless you***up the entry. The trick is to turn in tight to
the left BEFORE the racing line darkens (seems to be more grip there as if
its slightly banked on the inside) you dont need full lock either.

Weirdo....
Can I give you a good advice? Don't start selling things from the minute you
get tired of them! <G>
Everybody gets frustrated by gpl sometimes, especially in the beginning. I
haven't played it for 1/2 a year because I found it was too damn hard, now
I'm more ***ed than ever before. Imagine what could have happent if I've
sold it!

I really hope your friend won't beat you after a couple of days
practicing, that would really be bad for your m***:)

Hehe, actually I disagree.  I hope he does beat you Eldred.  Coz no
matter how many replays of other guys or tips you receive, all this
pales in comparison to being able to watch someone else drive.  To be
able to see how hard they're braking, how they deal with handling the
car, what the limits of the car are when they drive compared to when you
drive, where they are finding extra speed compared to you.  It's got to
be a benefit in the long term.  So for your sake Eldred I'm hoping he's
Huttu2. :)

Nah, he wouldn't do THAT..(I hope).  If that happened, then I probably *would*
quit...

?!
Well, I've run races online, and I've chased YOU around Silverstone.  In almost
every instance, I've been totally outclassed.  It doesn't seem to help.

Oh, ok.  I thought you just meant following them around the track...
