laps. I started out with the idt Formula Atlantic mod in rFactor
driving at Birmingham and Lime Rock. It went really well. I've
hardly driven rFactor in months so I really couldn't compare lap
times, but I felt like I was able to control the car very well.
Then I loaded ARCA and went to Kansas. I ran within 0.05 seconds of
my best time on my second qual lap. That's not bad considering I
haven't turned a lap there in a week and a half. I ran several more
qual runs an all laps were right at high 30.9's to low 31.0's. Very
consistent. I also did some 2 and 3 wide racing and was able to look
over at the other cars on the straights without becoming too
disoriented.
Seems like you just have to re-train your eyes to follow the movements
of the on-screen***pit, and make your mind ignore the monitor
bezels.
I did some more flight simming in FSX and LOMAC. That went really
well too.
The only problem I've had in getting Freetrack working is that I was
exceeding the band width of the only USB hub on my computer. I solved
all the problems by buying a $22 USD 2-port USB expansion card. Now I
have a G25, MS Sidewinder 2 FFB Joystick, and a USB CH Flight yoke
plugged into the on-board USB ports, with a Logitech Quickcam plugged
into the expansion USB card. Everything is running silky smooth.
Altogether it was about a $60 investment - $30 Camera, $22 USB card,
and less than $10 in Radio Shack LED's. Well worth it!
