Thanks everyone for the input,

I guess I'll just get the demos and try them out and see which I like best
seeing there isn't a decisive answer.

thanks again

"Poor physics" in F1CS2K?  WHAT?!  I know it comes down to personal
taste, but, frankly, I find GP3 to be pretty much deviod of any kind of
physics feel, whereas F1CS2K is the next best thing to GP3, IMO.  In
GP3 I just can't get over the feeling that the track is moving, just
scrolling by while the car itself is sitting still.

As I said, it's all about personal preferece, but when it comes to
physics, I personally prefer F1CS2K over GP3 any day.

Easy JB, easy.............Oh the humanity!!!!

Oh the threads.....!   God Help Us All.....!!!

Just let this topic rest in peace...!!  <grin>

(I'm going to load up F1WGP anyways again.....)

It is hard to say... As someone wrote, they somehow are quite even:
I think graphics, tracks, and of course FF are better in GP3 - there
nearly is no FF in F1CS2K, only on kerbs... But on the other hand,
F1CS2K seems to model the car behaviour quite nice after the very
good patch...

But both are really quite mild compared to GPL, and also to the N4
demo... ;-)

I am not a fan of FF, Arto, but for those of you who are, I take your
word for the fact that F1CS2K is lacking in that area.  Force Feedback
aside, though, I find that F1CS2K "feels" a lot like GPL when driven
WITHOUT a FF wheel (IMO).

Yes, but then again, I would expect a modern F1 car (with aero aids) to
be somewhat "mild" when compared to a 1967 Grand Prix car with no wings
and hard bias-ply tires -- or a heavy, hulking, relatively low-tech
modern NASCAR stock car . . .

;-)

Sorry -- you know how it gets with nutcase zealots . . . <G>

Good advice -- but HE asked! ;-P

Well, yeah, F1WGP does rule -- LOTS of fun, and oh-SO-close to being
REALLY great.  Four patches and the brakes are getting to where they
should be, thankfully.  Lankhor deserves more credit than they recieved
for this one.

That sounds like a graphics problem more than a physics problem.  F1CS2K has
a better graphics engine, I'll admit that.  But my problem with its physics
is that the cars just feel way too heavy.  You can make it a little better
by editing the inertia in the .veh files, but you can't use realistic values
because glitches begin to appear.

I also think the tires have way too much grip.  The .veh files say the tire
coefficient of friction is something like 2.5, which would mean you could
take a slow corner at 2.5 g's, probably a bit faster than that, because
there is some downforce even in a slow corner.  Whereas, in fact, F1 cars
generally take the slowest corners at about 1.5 g's.  I made a .veh file
that sets tire friction to 1.5 and increased downforce to compensate, and
the car felt just fantastic, actually a lot easier to drive!  Unfortunately,
the AI cars swerve all over the place with those settings, so it's pretty
much useless.  Sorry to be so long winded.

What glitches?  Have you tried the F1CS2K All Chassis Patch, available
from the Blackhole Motorsports site?  This seems to work nicely, with
no ill side-effects.  You can also download it from this link:

Okay, that answers my question -- you HAVEN'T used the All Chassis
Patch, because with that, you can enjoy enhanced player physics while
still allowing the AI to use the game's default physics, which means
that the AI performance is unaffected.  Get it now and stop complaining.

Uhhh... nice plug.  And you're completely missing my point.

Not a plug per se (it's not like I get paid for this $#!+ or anything,
you know), but you said you were seeing AI problems with altered
physics, and we've found a way around that with the All Chassis Patch.

Beyond that, what other sort of "glitches" did you see beyond erratic
AI performance when tweaking the physics?  And, again, I reiterate:
Have you tried the All Chassis Patch yet?

Hey JB, I'm interested, how does this patch work in order to not affect
the AI car perfromance, esp. when switching the cars?
