N2 on a cable modem?

by Kel » Tue, 22 Jul 1997 04:00:00

I was thinking of getting cable internet access and was wondering if N2
would work on "modem" or "network". I just want to race 1 other person
but don't want to have to use Kali. Anyone have an idea? And don't tell
me to use the modem I have because the purpose is not to tie my phone
line up all hours of the day and night :)
Thanks..

By choosing not to run Kali, your answer is NO.

The internet is TCP/IP, Nascar2 is IPX.  Papy is modifing thier code to
work with TEN via TCP/IP.  But I doubt this will be usable for head 2
head (or 8 racers) natively on the internet.

Another thing to check for is cable internet access MAY be download
only.  This means you still need to use the modem to send requests to
the local cable company.  Instead of receiving the files/pages via your
modem they would come thru the cable much faster.

Thats the way the cable company in my area implemented it.  In my
opinion, that stinks.  But the "masses" will buy anything these days.

Kel,

Most of your questions on the "WAVE" can be answered at
www.shaw.ca.  Unfortunately, I'm in a system without this luxury yet...
