When I read the first few replies in this thread, I thought the writers were
being incredibly ***y, but ...

Straighten me out here -- this Lolo person is (was) actually a member of
"the" Ferarri family, like Dino, Enzo and the rest?

She was not member of *the* Ferrari family. Actually her name wasn't Ferrari
at all IIRC. I recall Ferrari taking legal action to prevent her from using
the Ferrari name.

By the way, why is it human nature (or why has it become human nature) to
make tasteless jokes about someone following their death, just because they
may have had a more extravagant or otherwise conspicuous life?

I think it's a shame when someone loses their life so young, no matter what
the consequences.

No relation. Not even her real name. Ferrari SpA tried to sue her over
it, but the courts wouldn't countenance it -- Ferrari is a fairly common name...

You're of course quite correct; OTOH Ms. "Ferrari" led a rather
dangerous life of her own choosing (the *** world having probably the
next-highest percentage of AIDS and other STDs of any other "lifestyle"
demographic -- prostitution, legal and otherwise, being the most
at-risk). She also chose to become a media-circus personality with
*** augmentation far beyond what even an unusually severe genetic
mutation might produce -- in essence, she was a self-mutated one-woman
freak show; everyone was laughing at her in life, and so it's not so
unnatural to laugh at her in death ... but cruel? Without a doubt. When
people like Augusto Pinochet and Slobodan Milosevich get off scot-free
after ***ing thousands of their countrymen, it's hard to muster much
real censure against some poor woman who chose an unsavory and dangerous occupation.

Aren't all deaths sudden...  I mean one moment you're alive, the next you
aren't. :)

Not to open too big a can of worms, but quite often the words "chose" and
"*** career" etc. don't fit together so well. The "choices" that are made
often result from a history of manipulation, abuse, ***ions, misfortune.
I don't know any details of Ms. Ferrari's life, so I don't know the
consequences of her death.  I should also clearly state that I have made the
same jokes in the past, so my comments were meant to be reflective, not a
condemnation of the others in the group.
