I have been trying to update to 1.2 and when I do and execute I get a
message telling me I need to insert the CD and restart.

Any ideas how to fix this?

get the no-cd patch from http://www.theuspits.com

If it is a "new" cd there is a 1.2 patch on the cd. Use that and you will
have no problems.

I have had the same problem with a CD full version from a game magazine. But
a closer look
at the CD and I found the "special" patch which works.

I feel like a bit of a numbskull.
Go figure, a patch ON THE CD with the game??!?!
Why the heck didn't they just put version 1.2 ON THE CD?!

Now if I can figure out why everyone (AI) keeps driving like
60 KPH I will be set and ready to go. I am lapping other by lap 3 on most
tracks.

I assume you're talking about the AI on the ovals, or other converted tracks.
I'm sure somebody's working on the AI issues. If you're lapping that fast on
the REGULAR tracks, tell me how...?<g>
