GP2: Ignoring INDESTRUCTABILITY option

I came across a bizarre glitch yesterday that I would to NEVER see again...

I was playing a two-player race at Spain, in Championship mode, with all
car failures turned off and indestructability enabled.  During qualifying,
I had a throttle failure and then during the race my opponent had a
suspension failure.  We re-loaded the race and checked the settings several
times, but he still had a suspension failure in *exactly* the same place!

Anybody seen this before, or more to the point, how can I make sure it
doesn't happen again???? (It has only happened at this track, SPAIN).

Look in Drive Options / Car Realism. The settings here are independent of
F4 which only affects damage caused during crashes.

I read somewhere that all the car failures are decided when you go to
the circuit or possibly when you start a Championship season.

Can anyone else enlighten us further?

As far as I can tell, failures (for both the player and the CCs) and the
CCs pit strategy are set when you exit the previous session. So if you
finish qualifying, save the game, start the race & have your engine blow
on the 2nd lap & then load the saved game & restart the race - your
engine will still go on the 2nd lap. However, if you load the saved game,
go into the pre-race practice session, exit it & then start the race your
engine won't blow on the 2nd lap - but you may find that you have a
puncture on the third.... ;-)

This seems to be the case with non-championship races. Things might be
different in a championship season.

Cheers,
Richard

It is a strange thing
I vagualy remember that happening to me a while back. I was in a good
race when the "Flat Tire" thing came up on my screen. Since then I
usually race with indistruct' off but the weird thing is I hav'nt had
many filures at all since about 1 1/2 months ago, and I play gp2
everyday!

Hello all:

As far as my own experience when you start a race if something will fail
always will fail in the same place when you reload the game from a saved
position in any circuit.

I concur with Juan. In addition, it's important to realize that Indestructability and Mechanical
Failures are different.  If you turn on indestructability, it simply means that you won't take
damage if you hit something on the track.  Mech Failures is enabled in a separate menu, and
simulates random breakdowns.  To turn it off, I think you go to Drive Options off of the Drive
Menu, then pick the corresponding button (forget what it's called, you'll find it).  Anyway,
happy racing!
