GTR disk error....

by Hank Paul » Sun, 20 Mar 2005 10:18:07

Just got GTR from gogamer & installed it,
when I try to run it I get a disk read error.....
Tryed the obvious (uninstall, reinstall, etc.)
Could I have a bad disk even though it installed
the program??  I can't even find a support # to call.....

Help!!!    Hank

When it reports the error hit the "retry" button and enter the correct cd
key #.  I had the same problem and it was defaulting to the cd key # of the
German version I had previously installed (no matter how thoroughly I
uninstalled it).

On mine the CD key is the number inside the front cover of the manual. The
key in the CD cover is for Multiplayer registration.

Yeah some people have had some major problems with the Starforce
protection. It refuses to run with many CD/DVD drives, bad move by atari
or simbin IMO.  Im all for stopping piracy but not at the expense of
people who genuinly bought the game.  My flat eventually gave up and took
the game back after trying just about every solution on the net, help
from atari and some of our own ideas.

In my international version 1.3, the key inside the cover is the CD key
(and specifically states this is so), the multiplayer code is on a "credit
card" inside the box.  I'm guessing the other international (or at least UK
) releases are the same.

Starforce doesn't like the OP's setup.  Some arcane rituals might get GTR
running, or it may never, ever work unless he bins his current drives and
gets lucky with a new one.

cheers

"open box" USB CD-RW drive & will try it on
my new 'puter. Keeping my fingers crossed.....
