I just got this from the Technical Support Manager at Codemasters:
"We have no plans at present in producing TOCA 2."

Yeh, I'm pretty confident of a TOCA 2 as well.

Colin McRae Rally is the new (excellent psx demo, btw) use for the TOCA
engine, hoping for a PC flavour demo soon:)

I would say that a TOCA 2 needs damage which affects performance, a more
sim-like front-end, both sprint race and feature race w/ pitstops for
the feature race, AI reflecting real personalities, representation of
Independants, car set-ups and realistic suspension/brakes/wheelspin
models, a one-hour qualifying session and one-shot showdown for the
different races, practice and warm up sessions, replays (with external
camera views), changeable weather, tyre strategies, mechanical failures,
ability to watch a race after crashing out, modelled tyre wear,
red/yellow/black/oil flags and the ability to retire.
There's probably more stuff but I can't think of them atm.
btw. I think they should wait for the 99 season to base a TOCA 2 around,
with the Alfas included :)

Jus' call me a psychic :)
...Or did I just hear it from the horses mouth ages ago? :))))
Incidentally, they promised a survey in this group to see what people
want in the game... hope it materialises.

1) Arcade/Sim modes, with setups allowed in Sim mode.
2) Improved 'net play...get rid of the truly awful warping.
3) Replays
4) Damage model affecting handling/performance; punctures/tire wear.
5) AI that wants to race a little more than it wants to punt you off
the track...especially the backmarkers.
Anything over and above this would be icing on the cake. And lets get
a ship date to North America less than 6 months after the European
release.

Yeah, so far we only know it is based on the 98 season and pitstops are
included.

I agree on damage, pitstops for '98 season (it's fair that they didn't have
pitstops for the '97 season 'cos neither did the real thing), tyre selection
only - not the rest of the setup, rear view mirrors (yes please!), replays
(yes, yes, yes!), independants. Yup, perhaps only 3 laps to qualify from is a
bit mean.
Also indepedent braking and acceleration (if your wheel supports it), some
appropriate telemetry, non-UK car models and circuits and championships
(Australian and German). And they should get rid of the grannies driving
round while you're trying to qualify or at least let you choose when to go
out.
I think the AI drivers are brilliant. Some are more aggresive and error prone
than others (and they do make mistakes). Whether these accurately reflect the
real drivers, I don't know having never raced against them. I think the
vengeful side of some drivers must be exaggerated (it's a scream though!).
And you've already got pratice (time trial). The front-end seems great to me
- nice and simple. I don't mind the arcadey bits - you can always ignore them
- I do mostly - but after a ***race it's sometimes nice to go out in the
tank and blow Rydell, Menu and company to smithereens.
And TOCA2? This was posted a couple of days ago by Keith Quinton:

Okay, it seems to have be superceded. I've reloaded it from my history
and it says:
"Codemasters announce TOCA 2 pre-Christmas release for big racer
Codemasters announced the development of TOCA 2, the sequel to last
year's TOCA Touring Car Championship on Playstation and PC. It will be
the Warwickshire developers big Christmas release, and they're banking
on sales that will top TOCA's brilliant 750,000 performance in Europe
alone.
TOCA 2 will again feature the world's best touring cars in action, with
the double the tracks of the original, an 'advanced graphics engine'for
immaculate detail and new game features including strategic pit stops.
This in addition to new season rules and cars.
The original team is taking charge of development with the assistance of
the Colin Macrae Rally team, which has recently been acclaimed by
Game-Online and Playstation Plus.
Codemasters' Mike Hayes stressed that TOCA 2, "is much, more more than
an annual update. The development team is working to produce a game that
will deliver double what people expect".
Game-Online will be be receiving world exclusive images of TOCA 2 very
soon. "

Of course I agree re: the pitstops. Rear view mirrors too. I'd like real
setups too though.
I don't agree about the non-UK stuff. It's a waste of space, considering
TOCA doesn't run the German and Ozzie series (Although TOCA boss Alan
Gow has a hand with the Australian series).
I don't think the AI reflects the real drivers. I'd love to have a
barney with Cleland, while Nenu is trying to throw me off the track.
And the URL you mean is www.game-online.com
