Speed.exe Is it safe?

I've just downloaded the speed program, which is suposed to increase the
CPU speed. Has anyone tried it or had any adverse effects while using it?

Yeah, I think it's safe but it's the biggest HOAX I've seen in my life. I
had absolutely NO improvement in my computer speed using speed.exe. It
says all this ***about how your CPU speed has "doubled". It also gives
incorrect readings. I have a Pentium 60. Speed.exe said it was a 386
25MHz. So, if I were you, I would just leave it alone.

Did you know that the word 'gullible' isn't in any dictionary ??
Check it out, bet you can't find it.

Yeah, I ran this ***on an old 486-66 at work, (didn't want it to touch my
computer!!), and it said it ran like a 386. I ran a benchmark test before and
after the speed.exe was installed, and it reported NO DIFFERENCE!!!
Speed.exe is a stupid hoax!!

I don't know if it's a hoax or not. It seemed to me, when I installed it
on my 486 SLC2, that  it "goosed" the performance. Not a huge increase in
speed, but I think I got a little boost....or maybe it's a placebo
effect(?)

It's not a hoax. What it does is allow to you to change the refresh
rate of your ram. If you lower the refresh rate, more cpu cycles can
be used for your app. The problem is PC's are so fast today that
changing this rate doesn't do much or anything. On my old 386-16, it
helped. On a pentium..... forget it.

Today, speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

reguard to reality...

Okay, I've got a 1992 486dx2/75 (I added the overdrive to bring it up from a
/33).  I've seen an apparent increase in frame rates in ICR2, but not
NASCAR.  Is this an optical illusion?  Is my computer old enough to fall in
hte 'old computer' category?

I like the use of Smokey Yunick's old motto!

it won't make a difference on a 486+ computer. I know it did make a
difference on my old 286-10 ps/2. 486?? forget it. you can do the same
thing it does in the bios. reducing the memory refresh rates etc

My computer did not speed up. It says mine is running at the speed of an 286.
