Posted here as promised. The article comparing radeon 8500 and Ti4400 frame
rates in some racing sims is done. Also has some comparison shots with and
without FSAA.
http://www.racesimcentral.net/%20Ti4400.htm

(Ummm.....  it's not a review of the cards, just frame rate comparisons,
mostly. Reviews can be found everywhere else.)

Thanks, Tim. I hope it's useful for some.

 - actually, besides taking the time to say thanks, replying give me a
chance to test my new news-server without doing one of those "test" posts
;-)

The next round is here (The ATI Radeon 9700) and the results look
spectacular.

nVidia isn't expected to have anything even _close_ until 2003.

Unless they turn up their time table, which is entirely possible after
seeing the performance aspects of the 9700.

I just hope there is a full-power AIW version.  With FireWire this time,
dammit!  I don't care if I have to pay $500 for it.  A card as fast as the
9700, with full DirectX 9 support, at full speed core, with all the AIW
features is a card that can last me at least 2 years.

I'm liking the 9700. I hope ATI can write good drivers. I had a ATI Rage
Maxx Fury card and loved it at the time. I still think it looked better than
my GF2 and was darn near as fast, again at the time. I had a hard time
deciding between the 8500 and the GF3 I have now. Drivers were the reason I
went with Nvidia, but I'm kicking myself these days. The worst part is it
was an Xmas present from the woman so if I change it out I'll have to put up
with the "What wasn't mine good enough?" crap.  lol

Some of you guys just have TOO much money.  $500?!?  And what does FireWire
have to do with video?

The 9700 is looking good to me too.

I just hope it has an AIW version, with FULL speed and FireWire.

ATI always seems to leave _one_ feature out of their AIW's that stops me
from buying one, and I WANT one.

Why not just get a $30 firewire PCI card?

I just got 1 question: How much is too much, Imho No matter how much money
you got, you can always use more, but that's just me, if I one day run out
of things to spend money on, and have so much of the stuff that I just don't
know what to do with it, well then I guess I could always just build a
hospital, school or church. :o)
