First, I want to thank Doug for his setups. I've always done my own in the
past, but there's no reason for me to do that with GPL. His setups match me
perfectly.
Excellent article Randy. You addressed what is really my main (and only)
concern about GPL and that is the ability to drive really wild laps for fast
times. Last week I posted here at r.a.s. (GPL Handling) about this very
topic. When I bought the GPL, one of the first things I did was to look at
some fast lap replays that I found, and I was surprised at what I saw. I was
expecting that smoothness and control would be a requirement to be fast in
GPL, and the typical wild driving hotlap technique would be punished, but
that wasn't the case.
IMHO, the AI resembles the real life drivers I've seen on some old film.
The way the AI looks in GPL is the way I'd like to eventually be able to
drive. Fast, controlled, and smooth. I've been concerned it wasn't possible.
I think I've found a way through some steering setups to do this, but I need
time because I'm still new to the sim. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one
(there are a few others actually) who was a little concerned about this, and
you provided some answers. I thought I was seeing something that wasn't
there (I've done that before) :-).
