: The demo doesn't work with univbe 5.1a and ATI mach64 graphics cards
: unless you disable the linear frame buffer.
: I bought EuroFighter 2000 (a flight sim). It works fine with univbe 5.1a
: (same version) and the mach64 with the linear frame buffer enabler
: (don't know if I get any frame rate increade, though). So the problem
: seems to be a problem with the game, not with univbe.
Very true! I have been spending way too much time trying to figure out
just what the heck has gone wrong here. There does not seem to be a
problem at all with SciTech Software's UniVBE 5.1a and the Mach64 cards.
The problem seems to be with Papyrus and the way they have gone about
using it. If it is loaded as part of the game the Linear Framebuffer
must be disabled (thus negating the effects of VESA 2.0). If the driver
is loaded outside of the game there is no problem, but there is also no
improvement of frame rates. This leads me to believe that ICR2 is not
using the VESA 2.0, but 1.2 if it doesn't load the driver itself.
I have been in contact with the author of UniVBE about the problem. He
quickly responded (from Australia) asking for more detail. I have also
contacted Papyrus Tech support, but have yet to hear from them. But
then, they are well aware of the problem since Rick Genter has an ATI
Mach64 card and suffers the same problem.
