Hey, any of you morons out there, who are thinking of
Power F1, don't.  It's a big piece of shit.  If you're
looking for a really good sim, check out Daytona USA,
or Death Rally.

Could you elaborate? What sucks about it? Please be specific so I will
have more information as to purchase it or not.

OK, the biggest problem with this game is the sloppy, loose steering
characteristics when using a Thrustmaster T2 or reasonable facsimile.
There is a huge dead spot in the middle of the turning area that would
be like driving a car with loose steering linkage. When travelling 180+
on a race track it makes you move side-to-side. This is frustrating and
makes the game suck. The graphics are decent and the game does allow for
different weather situations. However, the cars look stretched when
being passed - like they were printed on silly putty that was being
pulled lengthwise. Also, in GPII, the grip of the tires while making
turns is a big part of the gameplay.  In Power F1, you can blast through
the corners much, much faster. I don't know whether you consider this a
plus or a minus. I've contacted Eidos re the sloppiness of the steering
and they replied the game was acceptable with the current idiosyncrysies
(their spelling) taken into consideration. In short, the game sucks
because it's too sloppy to be a sim and too touchy to be an arcade-style
driving game. Oh, did I mention the other cars run up your rear end and
make you crash even in the rookie mode? And that even in the rookie
mode  you could be leading the race all the way until the last last
before someone catches and passes you on the last lap?

It doesn't suck.  It is not a true sim like GP2, but it is not an arcade
game either.  You won't be able to drive aggressively at all without
setting up the car just the same as one would in GP2.

Graphics are much better than GP2 and use slightly less computer
horsepower--only because the graphics card has some impact unlike in GP2.
F1 has a newer season, an extra track and one substitute track, it has
weather that changes.  The control of the car is inferior to GP2 (using a
joystick) but can be brought to about 90% of the accuracy of GP2 if you are
smart enough to know how to configure the tires, wings and steering...most
people are not and the manual is useless if you don't know what you are
doing.  Unless you are a sim accuracy freak, F1 is just as good a choice as
GP2.  GP2 is now cheaper (thanks Microprose for not supporting us early
purchasers and then rewarding us again with this latest insult), but F1 at
least has the potential of support from its manufacturer--we know GP2 does
not.

The F1 demo is useless, as it is available only in VGA (not SVGA). The
sounds in F1 are vastly superior to GP2. F1 has limited set-up saving
capability--i.e., you cannot save a separate set-up for each track the way
you can in GP2.

Take your pick, but under no circumstances does one suck and the other is
so great.  They each have good and bad points (surprise, surprise).

great.  if u like it so much, let me know a friend ur recommending it
to and ill sell it to him.  Even though I doubt you could find
someone.  There will be plenty of power f1 to go around.  Because a
true simulator is just that.....an ACTUAL simulator.

Lets just say Power F1 and GP2 are two entirely different games. Power
F1 is more an arcade game while GP2 is more a simulator. What pissed
me off is the web page for Power F1 makes you think it is a simulator.
The only good thing the game has going for itself is it looks good.
Aside from that it is crap.

-it crashed too much
- you can literally drive through the other cars
-there is very little damage taken on by your car
- after the computer spins out he will be right back on you tail in
the next lap

IMOP if you want a good racing game get Need for Speed 2, Grand Prix 2
or Nascar Racing 2
