GPL Jerkiness....

by Ian Riche » Sat, 02 Jun 2001 23:07:05

I've always played GPL using my trusty Voodoo2 card, through a series of

It now seems to be struggling with some of the latest tracks, so I tried the
D3D patch in earnest for the first time last night, on my TNT2 Pro card.

For the first lap or so, every so often there is a pause, then a rush, which
seem s to be linked to hard disk activity.  This never happens in Glide.
After th efirst lap, things smooth out.  Is this "standard" for the D3D
version, or have I got something tweaked wrong?

Full specs are:

Soltek SL-75KAV motherboard
256MB PC133 RAM
Elsa Erazor III Pro (32MB TNT2 Pro) using Elsa ViVo drivers (based on NV
3.68)
Generic Voodoo2 12MB
TB Santa Cruz soundcard (currently using latest Videologic Sonic Fury
Drivers)
Seagate Barracuda II 7200rpm 20GB disk
Fujitsu 4.3GB disk
Philips CD-RW
Hitachi DVD
Win98 SE
DirectX 8.0a

Thanks for any help.....

Try these settings in your core.ini-

[ Int Profile Values ]
value3 = Direct3D7:D3DDevice:0
value4 = Direct3D7:TossHighestMip:0
value5 = Direct3D7:TrilinearFiltering:0
value6 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResWidth:0
value7 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResHeight:0
value8 = Direct3D7:DirectMirrorRendering:0
value9 = Direct3D7:DisableZBuffer:0

[ Direct3D7 ]
D3DDevice = 0
TossHighestMip = 0
TrilinearFiltering = 1
DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
DisableZBuffer = 0

Also try reducing the GPL detail slider bar.  If you have a USB MSFF wheel,
that can make GPL go jerky, as can using 3d wheels.

I had the same problem when I forgot to terminate my SCSI harddisk...
If you have any SCSI stuff connected, try disconnecting them and see if that
changes anything.
