whenever I try to make changes to my car or any other car's paint job, I
am unable to save the car. I get the message "An error occurred while
saving the car file". I used to be able to make changes and import new
cars. Now I cant do either. I tried deleting the directory and starting
over by copying the cars directory from the CD

Chances are when you copied the files from the CD, you made them read-only
as well. Change to the CARS directory and type "attrib -r *.*" or use
Explorer to change them back to read/write.

By copying the files from your CD, you inherited their file attributes.
The CD files are set to read only. You will need to turn-off the Read
Only attribute on all the files in your CARS directory.
