If Crammond used the same system as in F1GP1, there shouldn't be ANY difference
at all! The car you choose in F1GP1 simply becomes the "player's car" with fixed
BHP-settings no matter what team you chose.

But this is Grand Prix TWO, so I don't really know for sure of course....

Is there any performance difference when you choose difference cars?

Hi!

After playing GP2 for fun the last days, now I want to start a big season!
And now I ask myself which car should I take! I want to drive against the
top-drivers (like Schumacher, Hill, Coulthard etc.) and so I take a driver
of the lower-field and replace his name with mine.
Now I don't know, if this car is slower than the others?
Do you have any ideas?

Personally, I'm lost on the car selection process. I'm using
the Farrarri's (sp?) at the moment. But your question is an
important one. What are the differences in the 14 teams/cars.

I used to believe that Williams were "faster", Farrarri's were
better in corners, Lotus was....etc, but I don't know now at all.
I hope somebody who knows F1 racing can shed some light on this.
I'm also, not entirely sure that there is a big difference in
any case as you can adjust so many of the car's settings I
suppose you could get a Williams to run like a Lotus...Huh?

Good question...Which car/team.

I think this is also in GP2.  I did some quick tests, and didn't notice
any differences between cars.  For example I used identical setups
for Williams and Simtek.  I accelerated from standing start from the end
of pit road at Hockenheim to first "100" sign and reached exactly same
speed (315 kph) with both cars.

I'm bit disappointed about this.  GP2 has five fixed difficulty
settings, and once you've reached ACE level, there's no more challenge.
But changing from Williams or Benetton to midfield team would increase
difficulty considerably...

I don't think it makes a difference. YOUR car always has the same
performance/handling :(  (I would love it to race as a backmarker sometimes)

I don't think the other cars (when using the 1994 performance) have different
setups or different handling concerning turns/straights, I guess it's
only engine power :(   (please correct me if you know better!)

   Have FUN!

I too would like some input here but at Ace Level My Jordan - I
replace Eddie Irvine - can win at Monza. Ya gotta tweak tho and I am
still unhappy with my settings as they are still a second or so off
the records. Guess I was too used to holding all records at all tracks
with F1GP :)

If there is a performance degradation, this isn't such a bad team to
select as the cars themselves performed reasonably ok in 94.

I want to use one of the old no hoper cars if anyone can confirm I am
not crippling my chances of doing well.

I am also concerned about the random faults, If I pick a team that had
a high proportion of failiures am I also going to suffer that, or are
they truly random. At present I have all random faults de selected :)

In F1GP1, all AI-cars had the same wing-settings etc, although they changed
depending on the circuit. Dave Gymer wrote a utility to change their setup.

Yes, except that the game adjusts each car by some random offset so
that they're all subtely different. I would imagine it's the same in
GP2.

I've tested the same setup with Ferrari, Williams, Lotus and Sauber - no difference
at all. But in one race with Ferrari, the car stopped with motor damage.
That's realism!

I know I'm going to take the #2 Williams - the objective being, to win
the championship that _should_ have been won in that car.

Assuming that they actually get around to releasing the game in the US,
that is......

Ok, I watched a full GP distance, and now I know better:
The Benettons are faster in turns and slower on straights (less topspeed)
compared to Ferraris. Performance changes a bit after pitstops!
(I had Schumacher catching Coulthard (SP?) before the first stop, then
Coulthard was faster and passed Schumi after the stop. This was not affected by
lapping actions or drafting each other and both used the same pitting strategy)

I don't know whether this is true for the user car too.
(sometimes I had the feeling that the Benetton has a bit more traction
in turns, but this may be a psycholocical effekt...
Topspeed was the same for Benetton and Ferrari when I checked the cars
with the same setup...
