It was from a company named Intensor or something like that.
Basically, it's a hard plastic chair with a BIG subwoofer built
into the seat. There' s no cushion, just hard plastic, and supposedly
it lets you FEEL the hits, right through your tail bone. :-) When it
first came out it was selling for like $500, and most people consider
it as a monumental waste of money. The company went bankrupt
a while back.

Price-wise, things have gone up a bit...it's now ~$1200Cdn or ~$800 USD But
hey,...it's Sony.
:0)

One of the consoles (PS I think) used to have something called a
"rumblepack" or something like that. It was a little vest that you
wore which had a transducer mounted in the back. The transducer fed
off the audio signal, and coupled with a crossover circuit, would
vibrate in response to low frequency audio.
Anyway, my friend was able to find some dude selling these rumblepacks
for $5 apiece on EBay. He bought four, bought a crossover circuit
from the local Radio Shack, wired them all up and mounted them to the
bottom of his office chair. A nice comfortable chair, btw, which is a
vast improvement over the Intensor's hard plastic seat.
I finally got a chance to pay a visit last month, and I can honestly
say the effect was phenomenal. The transducers provide an extra level
of immersion that you really do have to try out to appreciate. He has
a nice 4 speaker setup and so has no need for additional speakers.
The transducers do a better job transferring the vibrations anyway.
So for about $30 and a few hours labor, he was able to roll his own,
for less expense and better results (IMO) than what he could have
bought from the store.

Personally, I found the "speaker under your ass" concept to be utterly
useless. You can't expect the sounds per-se to be an accurate representation
of what your ass will feel.
The VRF seat actually ports to the physics engine (rather easily)... and the
seat reacts the way the "physics model" tells it too... not the sound model.
