Test Drive Off-Road 2 problems

by MK » Wed, 13 Feb 2002 12:26:21

OK, I know, but it was $6 at a store and my kids wanted it. (and it IS kinda
mindless fun) But I'm having PC problems and wondered if anyone could help.

The biggest problem is random crashing back to the desktop. In the
troubleshooting it says to make sure you have DirectX6 compatible gear,
well, I have DirectX8 and it tests fine. I've tried turning off everything I
can think of and it still gives me crashes. I have a Pentium III 600 with
640M RAM.

The other is that when it is working, the display has random pixel streaking
across the screen, really bad.

Can't find any patches online for it. Any help is appreciated.

I haven't a CLUE but for Win 95/8 you have too much memory.  Take out a
clip and get under 512.  Many older programs would not work if too much
memory was installed.(this avoids the company having to also write the code
for NT/XP)
  good luck.

That sucks. There's a software way of lowering your RAM, I did it to run
some Jane's flying programs, can't remember the trick now. Anyone know that
stunt?

It is not just the software.  If you are using ANY of the win9x family it
just doesn't handle memory above 512 very well.  Sure it will see it, and
use it, but in a very slow way.  Do yourself a favor, if you must run that
much memory, get either Win2k or XP.  the win9x family works very well with
512 and below.  So while it's there, it' not letting your whole system run
to it's full potential.
Physically pull the memory or upgrade if your needs require that much..
If you already have NT/2k/XP then ignore this...but the older programs
will need you to make a RAM drive that uses up the extra memory.
