Test Drive: Off Road=Big Disappointment

by Sam Johnso » Sun, 02 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Hello, everyone...

Like many, I downloaded the Test Drive: Off Road demo, and this is what I
have to say:

When I tore the wrapping paper off my Christmas presents last Christmas
'95 and saw Road and Track Presents: The Need for Speed waiting underneath,
I instantly fell in love.  I was overjoyed with the realistic graphics, 8
*** cars, 6 tracks to race on, and awesome (original?) rock music.
And then, nearly 6 months later, EA came out with NFS SE, and again I was
overjoyed that all the old cars and tracks were back, plus 2 new tracks,
better music, and easier to operate menus.
Now, 1 year after original NFS, we have Test Drive: Off Road.

Only 4 cars available to drive.

6 more tracks to race on, but less realistic graphics.

        Why?

It leaves me baffled why in 1 year we have gone from high speed racing to
mediocrity.  Hasn't Accolade ever heard of the Ford Bronco or the Isuzu
Rodeo or the Toyota Land Cruiser, or even the new Dodge Durango SUV coming
out soon?

All I can say is, Accolade better come out with an upgrade for more cars,
or this game will flop big time.

Now that I know Papyrus is making an off road sim(SODA Off Road Racing)
I will gladly pass on Test Drive Off Road.
